Bookluva28 & I have started a Buddy Read of that notorious bodice ripper gem...

If you have it on hand to pick up and read along with us, welcome! And if you've already read it, please chime in with your thoughts. This is one I've been wanting to read for quite a while. :D

I think it's going to be a roller coaster ride. Already enjoying it mightily. :D

I'm already part way through The Silver Devil, I'm not sure if I can juggle two emotional upheavals. lol Although I was tempted to read Sweet, Savage, Love and Stormfire at once, to see how crazypants I'd be afterwards. Lol

Steve AND Sean? You wouldn't survive. :D

BookLuva28 | 65 comments I'm afraid Jemma is going to be my favorite character throughout this book. I can't help being reminded of Mammy from Gone With The Wind with Jemma's introduction. Lol

Haha! Same here!

I've only read one other Connie Mason in my life, and I've realized that she really is one smutty writer. It's like cluster bombs.

BookLuva28 | 65 comments Lol I never read Connie Mason. So, ur breaking me in with the cluster bombs. :p

Cluster webs of insanity! *Spiderman fist pump*

Getting back to this one...Amanda & Tony have to be the dumbest hero and heroine ever. Usually one or the other is a total idiot, but not both. Very impressive. :D

BookLuva28 | 65 comments They really can be. I love that the story reads like a bad soap. Nathan and Francis seem to be the only ones with some common sense at this point in the story.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

It definitely reads like a bad soap, the story tripping along from commercial break to commercial break. :D Captured by Indians! Letty arrives! No word from Tony! Re-captured by Indians! Locked in a slave cabin with a randy slave! Rescue! HEA! Letty's back! And so on. Each one could be done with a dramatic close-up and a music sting. :D

Oh my, I've not had the pleasure of the two for one. Lol

Wait, I read a novella the other day, I MUST share it. I was DYING...hysterical. I believe there's a scene, where the hero is almost kneeling.. WHHYYYYY won't she love me? Wailing at the sky.

To Court, Capture and Conquer

It's a quick read. Brighten your day with absurdity. ;D

That sounds so wretchedly woobie-emo. :P

BookLuva28 | 65 comments That scene with Buck, "the giant" slave was provactive. Not forgetting Letty's horny/ curious gaze over his well muscled body, and ample attributes. I can just imagine how steamy those plantation porn books are that Ms. Mason may have borrowed from. Lol

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

That entire scene had me about 99% positive that Connie was a fan of the Mandingo series. LOL As am I! :D Having Buck refer to a baby as a "sucker" was a Kyle Onstott alarm bell, but I haven't read other plantation porn books to know if other authors used that term as well. They'd have copied Onstott on it anyway, since he was one of the first.

The last half of the book really delivered on Teh Crazy.

BookLuva28 | 65 comments It definitely was crazy! Especially the unexpected turn of events and the somewhat predictable whodunit in the end. I haven't read many bodice-rippers or HRs but, Caress and Conquer was full of entertaining and degistable WTFery! :D

Letty came back like the zombie you think you've killed, but then it rears up screaming at the last second. She simply wouldn't die.

BookLuva28 | 65 comments What was outrageous and somewhat amusing to me was how every male character wanted to kill her! Lol

See, that does it for me. I need my hero to loathe the heroine so deeply(indirectly or directly), and it all turn into something more tangible. :D

I'm as weird as feck. :| Lol
