Anna Schumacher | 1 comments Hi, I'm Anna, from Brooklyn! Nice to meet so many cool fans of the dark, frightening, and macabre - looks like we have a lot in common.

My favorite kinds of books are dark, mysterious, character-driven thrillers. I have a special soft spot in my heart for creepy tales of religious fervor and fanatacism - cults, God, Satan, heaven, hell... all of it. I love Stephen King, and read a lot of darker YA.

I also write books, but out of deference to the group's regulations I won't pimp them here ;-) If you're curious, friend me and I'll tell you about them.

Steve Warren (steve_warren) | 4 comments I joined a while ago, but never popped in to introduce myself. My name is Steve, and I'm a longtime fan of the horror genre. I love books, movies and comics. While I love horror of all types, I particularly like it when things get very dark and extremely graphic. I also write, and have self-published a few books. I'm currently working on my next novel.

my name is danessa. and i am new to goodreads and to this group. do u guys pick a book of the month that everyone reads or do we just pick our own and share our thoughts?

message 108: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (spiralcity) | 406 comments Mod
Hi Danessa, welcome to the group.

We haven't had a book read in a while. There just hasn't been enough interest in doing so as of late. If I could get 5 member to commit, I will be more than happy to get another book read started.

We usually all nominate a book, then I put up a poll and we vote.

message 111: by Lori (new)

Lori Hi all, I'm Lori from NY. I found this site when I put Charles de Lint's name in the search box. However, I'm a big fan of horror book authors you posted as well. I also have been delving into this genre but with many European authors. I have just finished Revival and am currently reading The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan. So far it's leading up to a very interesting plot. She is an amazing writer, can be very "literary" I guess you would say. Prolific in her writing, extremely discriptive and enjoyable. I joined to hopefully discuss the feelings/opinions of others who love this mixed genre and find some new authors.

message 113: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (j_stacey) Hi, I'm Jessica and I'm new to the group. I'm hoping that someone can suggest some good horror books. I'm looking for books about possession, books about genuinely scary hauntings and other slasher type books like Texas Chain saw Massacre hacker books. any suggestions?

Hi Everyone. I'm Ken from Michigan and I am a horror junkie. I was weened on Stephen King, Robert McCammon and Clive Barker and have branched out to some fantastic authors that I've discovered on the recommendations of fellow Goodreads horror fans - Jonathan Janz, Tim Curran, Brian Keene, William Meikle, Gord Rollo, Greg Gifune, Jack Ketchum, Joe Lansdale, Tim Lebbon, Bryan Smith just to name a few. Looking forward to participating in this group.

Still looking to participate in this group, but feel like I've walked into a ghost town. Is anyone home or has this group been foreclosed on??

Skomand | 4 comments Hi, I'm Andy. Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, but I was wondering if you could help me pick a book to read next. I just read two books I loved (The Ruins, for its claustrophobic atmosphere; and Infected, for its cant-look-away gore.) Very different books, but so great in their own way. Any ideas for what I should read next?

Andy, have you tried Richard Laymon? One Rainy Night might be a good read for you.

One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon

Sorry folks, I have other commitments that keep me rather busy. I haven't had time to check in here much. I could use a moderator of two to help things move along.

Hi Kevin. I just joined this group, because it seems to involve books written by some of my favorite authors. I don't know what you might need in a moderator, but if it's just checking in with comments and keeping things civil, I can give it a try. Feel free to check my profile and email me with any input / thoughts. Thanks much.

Hi, yes, I may need somebody to look after this group. I may need 2 people. I have my hands full and I have a hard time checking in here. I run another group for book collectors and it is time consuming keeping that group up to date.

Janie Hi, I'm Janie and I'm a major horror reader. Thank you for the invite, Ken. I'm reading Webcam by Jack Kilborn, and it's not doing much for me. I'm planning on reading the first Header by Edward Lee soon, if anyone is up for a group or buddy read.

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello - I'm glad that this group has been resurrected (so to speak). My name is Richard and I like to read all sorts of stuff - but I would say that horror is probably my favourite. I wish the new moderators the best of luck and I hope the former group members come flocking back - like a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds".

Thanks, Richard! I'm looking forward to the challenge and I know Lisa is too. Horror is very near and dear to my black heart and my pulse quickens every time I find out that someone is into it too. I think it'll take some time and some good 'ol fashioned elbow grease, but I'm confident that this group will be going like a well oiled machine.

message 143: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (shaysmiles) My name is Cheryl but people call me Shay. I love Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I am open to reading other authors, so I am excited that I was invited to this group. :)

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) Hello!!!! I was very kindly invited to this group, accepted the invitation and then promptly forgot to come in and say hello!!! I'm a great fan of horror and dark sci fi/fantasy particularly of the old school. I am just beginning my investigation of Mr. H.P. Lovecraft and have been known to lose myself for days in H. Rider Haggard's adventures with She. I'm a devoted reader of Stephen King (and a member of his ka tet though the jury remains out on the film) and his (possibly more talented) son Mr. Hill. I adore Peter Straub, most especially Lost Boy Lost Girl and In the Night Room.

Fortunately for this bibliophile I am a librarian so its kinda my job to read! I'm a reference/adult services librarian in the Hamptons (if you please) but I am locally grown and not at all a snob (anymore).

I also keep two caged animals, excuse me, small boys who routinely dazzle me with their brilliance and astounding ability to still smell weird even after bathing. I am also the self described muse of an outstandingly talented artist and illustrator. There is also a very stupid but lovable cat named Atticus Finch running about the place and an evil, skin and bones one named Dobby who looks like a gargoyle and is nine thousand years old.

I watch loads of films current faves are "The Only Lovers Left Alive" and "Cloud Atlas" but the list grows and morphs and changes every day. I am also a former actor and big time theatre snob (tip: go see "American Psycho" before it closes!!! Very bloody!!!). Currently pipe dream is getting in to see "Hamilton" sometimes in the next ten years.

I am a sometimes television watcher more or less because what I watch I tend to get obsessed with. I'm a "Twin Peaks" junkie, a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" obsessive and don't get me started on "Hannibal."

I think that covers the basics? I like to talk? Did that come across?
