message 5: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments OK, how's this - Although Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (PMC) by Roald Dahl takes place in an unnamed place, you could make the case that the movie version has British accents, and so could be in Great Britain, which is an island :)

Matilda by Roald Dahl does take place in the UK, so there's a definite one.

Don't know if this is yellow enough, but The Gift of Rain A Novel by Tan Twan Eng takes place on the Malayan island of Penang.

Another set in England - 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

Hot fudge, no nuts :)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments The Gift of Rain looks yellow to me! You have MY vote!

Matilda is looking good, and if I can bribe Janice with enough e-chocolate perhaps she will see things our way with The Gift of Rain."

Just how much e-chocolate? Hmmmm?

Ah, Judy? You are going to score this monument first-book-crossed-off the list, aren't you? LOL!

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59936 comments ROFL! That's funny, Judy. :) Thanks for scoring. That was your R Task (Red, Author name starts with R), right?

message 12: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59936 comments Yes, "bluest" is okay. Adding the suffix to it doesn't change the meaning of the word.

I must find out about this fascination with audio books! I am going to check at my library and see if they have anything I can try.

Judy, keep those snails fresh! lol

I must give credit where credit is due. Since joining this group, Judy's talk about audio books inspired me to give it a try. I went to Librivox.com and downloaded Moll Flanders and The Picture of Dorian Gray. I also downloaded the e-book. I listened to them both and, sometimes, followed along with the e-book. I must admit, I'm hooked! I listen while cleaning, driving, and when the house is so full of people that I can't concentrate. It's a great way for me to knock those old classics off my TBR list. Thanks, Judy!

Thanks for the websites! Classics always end up being my favorites. Not sure I am ready for War and Peace though! Wow!

That sux! At least you enjoyed yourself while reading it! I've almost made the same mistake several times with blue books! Audio and eBook!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I discovered audiobooks this year and am very happy I'm giving them a try. I listen while driving and during my cardio work-out.

Connie, I highly recommend Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie mystery series of books for some light, fun, heartwarming listening. The voice of the narrator, Chet the dog, is perfect. Here's the link for the first book: Dog on It

I enjoyed this series so much, I talked to my hubby and sister a lot about it. (Sis has read them, too.) Now I'm reading the series again, out loud, to my hubby. We are on the 2nd book. He and I are really enjoying ourselves.

Do you just read them out loud or act them out? Would love to hear your Chet voice!☺
