Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments Andre, I think you need to change your password on Twitter. First you sent a private message beginning "OMG!!!"...which made me very sure it wasn't you...and now you're blithely advertising diet products every five minutes.

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments No wonder he's seldom here. He's busy selling his diet aids.

Nah, I haven't been hacked at all. Some wannabes are trying to hack an entire related circle of people. If you get a note saying someone is saying bad things about you, someone is laughing at a photo of you, etc, apparently from someone you know, don't click on the URL. If you click on the URL, you will be asked to sign in. If you do, that is the point where the scum harvest your password. Don't do it. If you've already signed in, change your password immediately.

Here's a tweet about it you can send forward.

Wannabe #hackers and #trolls loose on Twitter. Don't sign in, if you have already signed in, change your password. #RT @thrillsjute

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments I got a direct message from "you", Andre. Something about signing a petition.

This one: "Twitter might start to charge in July, sign this petition to keep the service free!"? I can't see where I'm supposed to have sent it, but I received several supposedly from other victims of this scum.

Proof positive that worthless Acai Diet Supplement turns people's brains soft.

message 6: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Yep, that's the one. I got it at both my Twitter accounts as a direct message.

K.A. Jordan (kajordan) | 3042 comments Yep! I've gotten them too, all the way to the wilds of Northeastern Ohio. LOL

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments If only our books could get so much publicity...

message 9: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Jordan (kajordan) | 3042 comments Yes, it would be nice to exploit this...not sure how.

message 10: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 1099 comments As with spam emails, I'm astounded that people are still falling for these things, though I suppose if one of my friends who uses OMG!!! all the time had sent the same tweet, I might have clicked without thinking. S

How sad that people spend their days thinking of ways to send this garbage.

Kench!! Too true!

I got the msg too, two of them.

That's good stuff, Sharon. Thanks!

message 16: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Yeah, it was all really good and I will have to study it further, but the one that most caught my eye was: ...the “tweet spot” for the number of tweets per day appears to be four. After that, the law of diminishing returns sets in.

Here's another find that considering the title of this thread, might make you giggle:

message 17: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Besides the 'best times' info, here are the other salient points:

Tweets with hashtags get twice the engagement of those without, yet only 24% of tweets during the time of the study used them.

Good reminder, was just saying the other day to a friend that I've not been remembering to add hashtags!

Using one or even two hashtags in a tweet is fine, but if you add a third, you’ll begin to see an average 17% dropoff in engagement.

Posts with images have double the engagement of those without even though users can’t see them until they click on them.

Posted my first one of these the other day, it is cool and so easy.

If you ask followers to “RT,” you’ll get a 12X higher retweet rate than if you don’t. But if you spell out the word “retweet,” that figure jumps to 23X.

Verrry interesting.

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments I'm not much of a believer in the value of Twitter when it comes to selling books. Giveaways? Yes, it helps with those. I like Twitter but don't use it to make money. I enjoy seeing the tweets others send and there are a few twitter accounts I've bookmarked so I can read whatever they tweet.

message 19: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Unlike other social media, I have only one Twitter account, and don't distinguish my writerly life from the rest of it. It's a bit like Pinterest (where shoot me if I even think of going there), a wide variety of subjects over a broad spectrum of 'friends'. Where I am pretty selective in my author FB page and on other social media sites, on Twitter I follow most who follow me. Who knows what interesting tidbits I can (and do) pick up. I'm interested in tech stuff, sports, promotion & marketing, writing, new discoveries, nature, pictures, you name it. I can flit in and out at leisure and spend no more than a few minutes at a time. If I'm not there for 8 days no one misses me (well, they may not on FB either, Kench).

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments I don't have a Facebook page and I have no idea what Pinterest is.

Kind of a visual Twitter. Seems a bit frenetic to me. Kench, just realized how old that statement makes me look.

message 24: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Pinterest is fun to look at (wouldn't participate though because Robust is all I can handle). Love the picture of the sleeping porch. I was ready to curl up and go to sleep there. I've had three people at my house asking them to design one of those porches for me but they can't figure out how to make it work, given the style of my house.

message 25: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments See, that's why I'm not getting involved with Pinterest. Just had to go there to check out the sleeping porch. Of course none on the front page anymore, so searched and found several. Who knew?

Patricia, I would get a fourth opinion. Sounds like a wonderful idea!

message 26: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciasierra) | 2388 comments Funny you should say that about a fourth opinion. Guy was here today looking at the challenge my house presents and he told me how it can be done. Only problem? I'd have to side the whole house (so all sides match) because he'd have to destroy one side. That's way outside my budget. However, his solution would work -- and he's the first person to figure it out.

Sharon Tillotson (storytellerauthor) | 1802 comments Sounds like a great place to put all your upcoming royalties!
