Genre Definitions
Urban Fantasy:
Urban fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy defined by place; the fantastic narrative has an urban setting. Many urban fantasies are set in contemporary times and contain supernatural elements. However, the stories can take place in historical, modern, or futuristic periods. The prerequisite is that they must be primarily set in a city.
Paranormal Romance:
Paranormal romance is a sub-genre of the romance novel. A type of speculative fiction, paranormal romance focuses on romance and includes elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, blending together themes from the genres of traditional fantasy, science fiction, or horror.
Dystopian/Apocalyptic:
1. A dystopia is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian.
2. An imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one; Resembling the end of the world; momentous or catastrophic.
Steampunk:
Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where STEAM POWER is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.
Mystery/Thriller:
1. Mystery is a genre of fiction in which a detective, either an amateur or a professional, solves a crime or a series of crimes.
2. Thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, and television programming that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements.
Horror:
Horror fiction is a genre of literature, which is intended to, or has the capacity to frighten its readers, inducing feelings of horror.
Chick-lit:
Slang for a genre of literature geared towards female readers , which deal with modern issues in women's lives.
Science Fiction:
Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginary but more or less plausible (or at least non-supernatural) content such as future settings, futuristic science and technology, space travel, aliens, and paranormal abilities.

Below is a list of popular genres. Your goal for July is to pick a book from each of them, even if it is not something you normally read.
Because some read faster than others, I'm adding challenge levels this month.
1. Easy – read 3-5 books, each from different genres
2. Medium – read 6-8 books, no more than 2 from each genre
3. Hard – read 9+ books, no more than 3 from each genre
Genres:
Urban Fantasy
Paranormal Romance
Dystopian/Apocalyptic
Steampunk
Mystery/Thriller
Horror
Chick-lit
Science Fiction
Let us know when you post your books which level you are aiming for. Remember, this is just for fun so if you don't make it that's ok!
If you're not sure which category your book falls in, go to the book's page and look on the right-hand side under "Genre." Many books fall into multiple categories, so pick the one you think is best.
For this challenge we are not specifying between Young Adult and Adult books, so those categories don't matter.
You can post your books now or as you go, but don't start reading until July 1!!
