Hehehe-Karen I had to laugh at the last line. On saturday we had tornados move through our area. As my family headed for our basement, I grabbed my purse, cell phone, and out of habit MY BOOK!!!! What the heck. Needless to say my hubby and kids were not impressed.

Welcome to the group, Karen.

Jacalyn | 23 comments Stephanie, WTH? They didn't see the brilliance of having your book with you? It's a tornado. You gotta hang out in the basement for a couple of hours maybe without power? What else do you do? LOL I mean unless you are watching a family movie or something??? When I lived in Ohio I kept my books downstairs in our basement. So I woulda been covered ;) HAHAHA Maybe I should move my books downstairs now ;) HAHA

message 154: by Karen (new)

Karen (primos) Haha!! They probably don't realise the comfort books give us :P I feel so lost without at least feeling a book in my bag. Its like I left a part of me behind! They'd probably appreciate it better when they have nothing to do and you're tucked in a corner enjoying the tales from other worlds!

message 155: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 23 comments I'm guessing. You need to instill a love of reading in the kiddos. Then they can join you in grabbing a book before going downstairs! Then you will just have a husband going ??????????

My kids take a book everywhere. :) Of course I bribe them to read. If they finish six books in a month they get to go for pizza. :) Talk about motivation! HEHE My 12 year old read like 20 books in January. :)

My boys don't quite have the passion that I have. They all had a good laugh at my expense...hahaha Mom forgot to grab us but she remembered her book???

message 157: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 23 comments ROFL my boys would be like 'where is our book???" LOL but they aren't near as passionate as me. Though they just started burning through the Maximum Ride series and I can't seem to get their noses out of the books. So maybe they are catching on!

I reward my kids with the movie based on the book they've read for family movie night. My 8 year old read the children's version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 4 days as he was excited to watch the movie. My 11 year old last year read all 7 Harry Potter books. This year he read Swiss Family Robinson.

message 161: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 23 comments Briansgirl - We are reading Swiss Family right now as a family! :) My boys read 20k Leagues like a year and a half ago and they have watched the movie and really enjoyed it. :) We read Journey to the Centre of the Earth and then went to the 3D movie last year. :)

I'm not sure what we are reading after Swiss Family... LOL

message 162: by Adrienne (new)

Disney made a Swiss Family Robinson movie ages ago, but as my son pointed out, they left out the fourth son! lol They havn't read the full version of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea but my 8 year old read the children's illustrated classics version. That Disney movie starred Kirk Douglas. I have the children's illustrated classic version of Joryney to the Center of the Earth which my 11 year old read (in 1-2 days). Need to get him the full version and then we'll have to go find the movie to rent.

message 165: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 23 comments We watch the classic movies as well as the new ones. We just like to compare. :) It's fun!!!!

Our big thing was we read Robinson Crusoe like a year ago. Then this year they had that TV Show on during the fall so we watched it together as a family. That was pretty cool!!!

Kasia Lady Ozma wrote: "Our big thing was we read Robinson Crusoe like a year ago. Then this year they had that TV Show on during the fall so we watched it together as a family. That was pretty cool!!! "

It is cool, you rock Lady Ozma. I look at the families I know, and in most of them, each person does their own separate things. So it makes me happy that you, for a change, have such a rich family life.

Lori (moderatrixlori) Librarylass wrote: "So...how many of you are in my boat where all my children (20,21 & 22) have left the nest???"

Well...almost. My 18 year old son is moving to Tampa in May to start college. He'll be home every weekend though so it's not really the same thing. It's been just the two of us since he was 8 weeks old so it will be an adjustment living alone during the week. Thank goodness I have my dog and my books!

message 168: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 23 comments Oh gosh, read my twitter. We're always on the go go go. LOL THis "stay at home" mom and "homeschooling" thing is a load of crap. We don't do anything at home it seems like! LOL Talk about MISNOMER!!!

Our latest adventure is we are all learning different languages with some cross over. Husband and oldest are learning Japanese. Youngest is learning Chinese. I'm brushing up on my french. I'm dabbling in the Japanese and Chinese. So we got everyone these DS games for the languages. ROFL

And this week we're exploring the world by making meals from different countries thanks to another DS game. LOL Geeze. We're a bunch of LOOOOOONS. But if you want to call it a "rich family life" that sounds WAY better! LOL

It is certainly an adjustment. I was down for quite some time after BUT now I am loving being only responsible for myself (and the dog AND sometimes the hubby)... Give yourself some treats to look forward to... and plan visits ahead so you can have a countdown, then you can handle small chunks of missing your son without it seeming like forever.

I know when I have a date in mind when I am next going to see any of my kids (but esp. my daughter who lives further away), I can cope with missing them a LOT better

JenMcJ Drop by and tell us something about yourself:

Birthday: Jan 11
Favorite Color: yellow
Favorite Food: Sushi or Mexican
First Romance Novel Read (that you can remember): I don't remember but I am pretty sure it was something in the early 80's about a swashbuckling pirate determined to relieve the headstrong maiden of her virtue...unless you count the smaller contemporary harlequins I read as snacks for years before that.
Favorite Romance Genre: I have gone through them all and have landed recently at M/M erotica of any kind.
Finished the line: I know I'm a book addict because.... it would be a toss up if I had to choose between my Kindle and my husband

Favorite Color: Pink
Favorite Food: Olive Garden's Pasta e Fagioli Soup, but anything Italian will do and Dark Chocolate
First Romance Novel Read (that you can remember): I honestly can't remember the very first one. I read some inspirationals and Barbara Cartland Regencies in my teens and then when I met my husband, my MIL got me into Julie Garwood's books
Favorite Romance Genre: I think I read every genre except M/M and equally enjoy them all, but since I have more Historicals on my GR bookshelves than anything else that must be my favorite.:-)
Finished the line: I know I'm a book addict because....My bookshelves are overflowing, and I have piles and boxes of books all over my house. I haunt the library and used book sales, and when I'm not doing that or actually reading, I'm hanging out here on GR talking about books.

Hi everyone. I just joined, so still lurking around a lot.

Birthday: June 8 1979
Favorite Color: green
Favorite Food: Mexican
First Romance Novel Read (that you can remember): I know my first romance was one of the many Harlequins that my mom would read and I would sneak and read. I can't remember any of them. More recently, I came back to the genre with Twilight, like several other posters.
Favorite Romance Genre: paranormal or historical
Finished the line: I know I'm a book addict because.... I've been getting in trouble since elementary school for hiding books behind my textbooks or under my desk and reading during class. Now I'm in graduate school, working on my Masters, and I still do it. I'm just better at not getting caught.
