[ name ] Rae "Raeflower" Fowers. (Yes. I'm using that last name because I want the nickname to make sense. >>)

[ age ] Seventeen.

[ gender ] Girl.

[ personality ] Rae is what some people would call "scene," meaning that she is very into music -- she makes sure to go to all the concerts, as long as she can afford it -- but that isn't to be confused with "emo" because she is most definitely not that. Rae is a typically happy girl -- she has a good life with two parents; one older brother who is in college and is in a relationship with a girl whom, if she was being honest, she would rather he didn't marry (Rae wasn't the biggest fan of her "girlfriend-in-law," if you catch my drift, and she has made that clear time and time again); and a couple close friends who she knows she can trust. Likewise, she's the type of girl who looks like a rebel and acts like a saint; she has a perfect transcript as of yet with no grade under a solid A starting her freshman year in high school, and she's very nice to typically anyone she comes across. It didn't always used to be that way though, which is where her sarcastic side comes into play, although that's a completely different story...

[ appearance ] Scene kids are frequently confused with emo kids because of the way they look -- layered, choppy hair; lots of neon colors; and big jewelry -- but they aren't emo; they just look that way. Rae looks this way; though she doesn't have any neon in her hair, she has black hair that's layered and choppy, and she loves big jewelry -- she's practically obsessed. Because of this, she is often judged as emo, but she's not -- rest assured. She has very gentle ocean-blue irises and a pretty face; her pale complexion and dark eyeliner are what typically bring out the flawlessness in her appearance. [ http://media.photobucket.com/image/bl... ]

[ abilities ] There are several realms in this world, and Rae is the one person who can travel between them; this power is called dimensional travel. She has yet to put this power to good use, but someday, she hopes to find some reason for its existance.

Rae was a nerd -- big time. She was one who would stay after school to study for the final exam coming up in a month or to and to talk with her teachers just to talk. On this particular day, she did just that; when the school bell rang announcing the end of the school day, while all the other kids all raced out of their classrooms and cheered as they made their way out the doors, Rae slipped silently away into the classroom that she loved most -- physics.

When she walked in, the teacher, Mrs. Clark, was writing the agenda for the next day on the board. At the sound of approaching footsteps, the teacher looked up and immediately grinned; Rae was probably her favorite student.

"Miss Rae," she said in greeting. "It's nice to see you again."

Rae smiled crookedly, warmly. "You too, Mrs. Clark."

"How can I help you today?"

She shrugged. "I just have a few questions on the homework."

There was a loud bang coming from outside and she glanced that way; she knew that sound. Kids did that all day long, whether they were ticked off at their lockers or someone else, or they were just goofing around. Rae merely ignored it after that. Pulling the sheet of homework from her bag, she handed it to Mrs. Clark and discussed the according questions with her; being the intelligent and argumentative person she was, she made a good argument with her teacher, but eventually she was able to see Mrs. Clark's point with each and she grew to understand the concepts with more clarity.

"Thank you so much," Rae said with a grin as she made her way out the door minutes later. She slung her backpack back over her shoulder and sauntered casually out of the classroom.

"Anytime, Rae!" the teacher called after her with a brief wave.

Rae stepped out into the hall just in time to watch a girl storm passed. She quickly moved backwards and out of the way, not wanting to get trampled, and watched with an arched eyebrow as she disappeared through the school doors.

"Wonder what's up with her," she muttered, but she hardly thought anything more of it. She was ready to go home now and so she made her way out as well.

It wasn't long before she noticed that she and the girl seemed to be going to the same place for some weird reason. Hmm... She tried to pretend to not care; the girl was bound to turn on a different street anytime soon. Why would she be going to the same street as her anyway? Unless... It dawned on her; she must be part of the new family that had just moved in next door. That made sense.

(If you don't mind. <.< I just thought it a neat idea. :3)

Eventually, Rae turned onto her street just in time for her phone to start buzzing in her pocket. She slipped it out with ease from much practice and read the text; it was from her mom.

MOM: Had to leave last-minute for work. Won't be home until late. Let yourself in.

She sighed; her mom had to go back to work again. This would be the third time just this week. It seemed like she was never home anymore. Well, she thought to herself, on the bright side, at least she's making us some decent money. Her mom was a businesswoman -- a very famous and needed businesswoman, you could say. She was the Second Assistant for the Editor in Chief of a popular fashion magazine, "Rage", and that's a big deal.

Rae turned into her driveway and made her way to the door. She wouldn't call her house fancy, but she loved it; it definitely was a looker. It was huge -- very tall -- and it was made of red and brown bricks, outlined by stones and rocks of the same hues.

She found the housekey under the front mat -- where it always was -- and made her way into the place she called home.

"I'm home!" Rae called while sliding the key back under the mat. She stepped inside and shut the door behind her then she locked it. There was no response; she was home alone.

Huh. I wonder where Dad is. Usually he was in his office typing up his next lecture. He was a professor at the nearby college -- yep; he'd earned his PhD in, believe it or not, physics. Today, however, the house was dead quiet. Almost too quiet...

Rae made her way towards the laundry room where she kept all of her school supplies when she wasn't at school and set her backpack down on the ground, then as she turned around to make her way to the kitchen to grab a snack, someone grabbed her from behind and placed their hand over her mouth before she could muster up a scream. She immediately knew what to do, though; she thrust her elbow backwards into the attacker's gut, and he released his grip, then she stomped on her foot as hard as she could, then while he moaned because of the pain, she whirled around and brought up her leg to knee him in the groin, but not only did he push her leg back down in defense, but she found herself face-to-face with her older brother.

"Oh, my gosh, Elliott!" she gasped, her hands flying over her mouth as she stumbled backwards. "I'm.. so sorry! I'm so so so sorry! I didn't know--"

His face was pinched up with pain, but he was able to interrupt her nonetheless. "It's okay, Rae. I should have known better than to approach you like that. I'm okay."

"You sure?" she breathed, terrified that she may have seriously hurt him.

"Yeah," he managed to mutter as he suddenly doubled over while clutching his stomach. "I just might need to sit down for a few minutes."

"Of course, of course." She wrapped her arm over his shoulder and assisted him to the couch.

"Can I get you something? An ice pack? Something?" Rae was desperate to help him; she felt so terrible for hurting him.

"Honestly, I'm okay." Elliott was looking a lot less hurt now. To help his words, he smiled reassuringly. "No blood, no foul."

She sighed. "I feel so bad. I didn't know it was you--"

"Rae." He placed his hand on her shoulder while she sat next to him. "I'm okay. Honestly." He gave her a sincere look and after a moment, she finally nodded with another sigh.

"Alright. Fine. But I still feel bad." There was a few moments of silence. "What are you doing here anyway?"

"Oh, Rachel went on vacation with her girlfriends and so I decided I might as well get out of the house too."

Rachel. Elliott's girlfriend-but-practically-fiance; I mean, they even lived together. Rae was never happy about that; she and Rachel never got along well.

"Oh. Well, okay then." She grinned. "That's enough of a reason for me. Where are you staying?"

"I'm actually staying here; Mom and Dad okayed it over the phone."

"Wait; wait, wait, wait -- back up for a second." She waved her hands in the air with her words. "Mom and Dad knew about this? And nobody told me?"

Elliott shrugged. "Guess not."

Of course. Figures. They never told her anything; they liked giving her surprises. Little did they realize, as many times as she complained about it nonetheless, she hated surprises.

"Well, your room is upstairs as it has always been." Rae smiled at the memory of her brother's room; she hadn't been there in a few months, but her room was right across the hall so she always got a glimpse of what he left behind every day.

"As always." He leaned forward and kissed her forehead, then he stood from his spot on the couch, still in good enough condition to stand -- thank goodness -- and made his way towards the stairs. She watched him go for a few seconds without another word.

In the meantime, she decided she needed to go for a walk -- not for any particular reason; she just felt like it. She pulled out her earbuds from her left pocket and plugged them into her cell phone, then she turned on some intense dubstep to drown out all other sounds -- oh yes.

"I'm going on a walk! Be back soon!" she called to Elliott upstairs, who replied, "M'kay; be safe!" Then with that she made her way out the door.

Rae closed the door behind her and then she heard voices coming from her right; naturally, she glanced over out of curiosity and saw that the girl that she'd basically followed all the way home was leaving as well with a younger girl; she assumed that it was probably her sister. From a distance, Rae smiled at them and waved, then she made her way down the steps and then down the driveway.

It felt amazing outside. It was about eighty degrees outside, she would guess, with a northern wind -- it was cool, which made the temperature feel just perfect. There wasn't a cloud in the sky; the sun beat down on her skin, warming her. Maybe I'll start a tan, Rae mused as she turned and began making her way down the street along the sidewalk.

Rae walked at a leisurely pace, finding no reason to rush, and contemplated if she was going to go somewhere or if she was just going to saunter around the neighborhood and then make her way back to her house. After a few moments she decided she would stop by the nearest gas station; she wasn't sure why. Maybe she would buy a soda or something. With that thought, she turned onto the street that would lead her to the 7-Eleven not far from her home.

McKell Nichols (mckellnichols) | 84 comments Mod
When she stepped into the building at the gas station, and instantaneous, repulsive smell surrounded her. She wrinkled her nose and immediately found the source; someone on the opposite side of the room was smoking.

Is he crazy, smoking at a gas station? Even though he was in the building, there was still the risk -- huge risk. It wasn't long, though, before the man, who had been leaning casually against the wall while enjoying his cigaratte, made his way out of there, taking his stench with him.

Raeflower sucked in the clean air -- quietly, attempting to not be rude even though the man had already left and was well away from earshot, not to mention there was a door and closed windows between them as well. Then she made her way towards the back where all the sodas were kept, glancing over them to see what her cravings fancied at the time being.

She grabbed a root beer bottle and a king-sized twix and then made her way to the cashier and paid for her chosen items. Then she made her way out of the 7 Eleven and started heading home, passing by the Arctic Circle on the way, when she suddenly tripped and fell on the cement, scraping her knee. "Ugh; stupid..." She muttered some unfriendly words underneath her breath as she returned to her feet.

"Yeah," she muttered, brushing off her knees. "Just got two left feet." Rae smiled crookedly at her as she stood, a soft, casual smile, and brushed her dark hair out of her face.

When she got home, she didn't go straight inside. She made herself comfortable on the front porch and enjoyed the sun's beams on her skin. She was unusually pale for who knows what reason, despite how much time she spends outside.

In the meantime, she thought about the two girls she passed by near the arctic circle -- no particular thought; her mind was just wandering aimlessly as she soaked up the sun.

Suddenly her phone began to ring in her pocket; she slipped it out -- it was a friend from her astronomy class, the one always gushing about the newest male hit singer. She picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Raeflower! You'll never guess whose concert I got tickets to?!" Her voice.

"Mmm... Justin Bieber?" Her voice was full of sarcasm.

"YES! And... I got two tickets! So guess what?"

"Hmm?" She could tell what was coming.

"I wanted you to come with! What do ya' say?"

Raeflower smiled to herself; she'd been to a couple Justin Bieber concerts in the past. She'd always been one for concerts, but she was more of a dubstep/hard rock type person. However, she wouldn't miss an opportunity to go to any kind of concert.

"Sure! When and where?"

Rae waved at the two girls passing by with a bright grin, wrapping up her conversion on the phone.

"It should be in about a month, I think. I don't know yet. But I will let you know!" the girl replied to her previous question.

"Okay, you do that," Raeflower said with a smile. "Talk to you later."

"Talk to you later!"

Beep! She hung up the phone and skis it back into her right front pocket.

"What a pretty name," she said with a broad smile, when suddenly the door swung open behind her, and there stood her brother.

"Elliott, this is Jaye and Emerald. They recently moved into the neighborhood. Guys," -- she looked at the two girls -- "this is my older brother, Elliott."
