Welcome, Evan."
Thanks Jan! My first impression is, so many books, so little time! How wonderful to find that there are multitudinous book nuts out there. I use to catch a lot of grief growing up, from non-readers in my family. They have forgotten about the time they frittered away back then, but I still have the memories of those books.

Take care."
It's a little bit bewildering at first Denise, but I'm honing my navigation skills. You have to consider, when I graduated high school, the computer class consisted of a room, little larger than a janitor's closet, wherein five or six of the "nerdiest" students learned Cobol, Fortran, and whatever archaic computer languages were extant at the time. Oh, and by the way, no computer(s) in the class. They simply talked about computers, and couldn't even apply the intricate languages they so dilligently studied. Ten years ago, I didn't know how to turn on a computer. Times have changed, and I'm still trying to catch up.

Thanks Bill. I loved the Scholastic Book catalog! Drove my mom crazy wanting to order everything. They all sounded appealing. Our elementary school library had an "Easy" section for new readers, which went through first and second grades, maybe higher. My second-grade teacher was aware of my thirst for books, so she gave me run of the library, rather than restrict me. Bless her heart! My classroom seat was in the far back corner, and when the other children had to put their heads on the desks , for lights-out nap time, she let me crack the Venetian blinds enough to have light to read by.

She would probably get reprimanded today for favoritism, impairing child development by sleep deprivation...or some other farcical charge.
The Scholastic Book catalog! What great memories. I had forgotten about it. I wanted everything too - well maybe not the books about sports :)

It was so difficult to narrow my choices of books when Mom set a limit. Then after ordering, I counted down the days. It seemed to take forever.

I haven't forgotten either. Lots of lasting memories revolve around books. I responded to a LOTR question on here yesterday, and got all carried away. I started with The Hobbit, forty years ago.

I remember fondly the Scholastic Magazine. A library fiend too.

I was actually a member of the Library club in High school, great fun working in a library. :0)

Thanks Dawn! Glad to be here. Lots of reading time for me lately, following shoulder surgery, but soon back to writing. I've got one book with a publisher, in the layout phase at the moment. Still working on some illustration inserts. And I'm researching and almost ready to start writing on my newest project. This will cut in to the reading time significantly.

I put in a lot of volunteer hours at the library. I miss the older cramped libraries that have been replaced by large sterile boxes.

I used to use the library all of the time when I was in school; regularly had two or three books out at a time. I don't now, which is unfortunate I guess. I just like to take my own time reading books and think I'd feel too much pressure to rush through books to meet library deadlines.. Plus I like having my own books on my own bookshelves.. lol
