Since then, the only thing I have read by Gibson is The Difference Engine, a dammed good and really different book which he co-wrote with Bruce Sterling.




Agreed. More to the point, this is the book widely credited with inspiring the cyberpunk movement, and also clearly influenced a lot of sci-fi in the 90s, to include the Matrix. I'm not sure you can fully appreciate where modern sci-fi culture is going without reading this book.
