Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments How about pick me a book-
basically involves members picking books for each other. Several ways to do this, have members sign up and you randomly choose pairs, or let ppl pick each other in the thread. Then have the pair choose a book for each other, again several ways that could go. I look at my persons TBR and pick one for them, or I look at my TBR and give them one I think they might like, or pick a fav of mine they haven't read yet, pick a random free amazon ebook to make them try..endless possibilities. Give each team a time frame to read and review the books or don't other with that and just let them read for fun.
Could even just allow ppl to keep randomly letting others pick for them??

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments Aother fun one is a qrtly challenge it is 10 books and you have to pick them based on criteria. The one I'm currently doing for a group includes these types of things:
1) boy on cover
2) character who plays sports in book
3) title must start with one letter from summer
4) book to movie book
5) book published during challenge months
Etc...my books are listed on my shelf ya 6th qrtly challenge.

Marie-Claude aka MC | 198 comments These are great ideas Michele, I'll be needing some ideas like that for our future challenges!

I am not sure that the Pick Me a Book would work for a challenge persay, but it's something to think about. An activity to do. I like the ideas a lot!

Thanks for your input!!!

Do you have any ideas for random contests giveaways?? Because I'm never doing a forum posts contest ever again... Haha. I really didn't know what I was getting myself into. *sigh*
It's fun, don't get me wrong... But we discussed it earlier. This forum is now a mess and the OCD in me is freakin' out! LOL

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments Ok how about
1) random quotes from our BOTM and we have to guess from which book in PM to you. You choose (using the rAndom.org site) a winner from all those who get them correct. 1 entry per correct quote but you can only send one guess (cuts down on your emails)

2) re-write this: take a scene/conversation from book and have us re-write what we think a character should have said or done.

3). Book scavenger hunt - come up with a list of things and we need to send book name and page where we find them. We can find them in any book we own we just have to you the info

I would suggest having contests be won by random instead of 'first correct' that way more people can play and I suggest one entry only to cut down on board clutter :). Just my thoughts.

message 7: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) Writing competition. the Mods have to choose the winner.

L.P. Dover | 70 comments Oh wow, Michele those were some wonderful suggestions. I totally support you on those. I was totally coming up blank with suggestions. I hope yours get some consideration by the Mods. I would totally play along in those games. :)

Thanks! I'm trying to think of things for writers that doesn't involve writing a whole long story. That's time consuming for the mods and us reading/writing them.

Marie-Claude aka MC | 198 comments Wow thanks Michele! These are fabulous. We have been talking about random contests so everybody gets a fair shot, it'll be coming soon! =)

And as far as the writing, if you have any ideas for quick contest, fire away!! :P
We will most probably turn the Picture Me a Story activity in a bigger contest. We were thinking about making it bigger, and perhaps having the members vote on their favorite stories. We Mods would also be able to participate.

But yes, we will consider everything you guys bring up!! This is your group after all!! =)

message 11: by Michele (new)

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments I was thinking member vote too! We can't have our Mods left out ;)

L.P. Dover | 70 comments Michele (chelemybelle) wrote: "I was thinking member vote too! We can't have our Mods left out ;)"

That's true!!! I didn't even think about you guys wanting to join in. Member vote would be really good too.

message 13: by Michele (new)

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments So I think it would totally be fun to have people debate over a book. Get peeps who loved it and others who didn't and let them argue it out (in an educated way) to see who can make the best points...let people sign up and then assign random pairs and they can look through their books for a matching read that would work?? I dunno how to work it but it would be fun. Members could vote on most persuasive argument. I wanted to be a lawyer once upon a time ;)

message 14: by L.P. (new)

L.P. Dover | 70 comments @Michele- another good idea!!!! That one could work really well. (In an educated way) :)

message 15: by Michele (new)

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments Haha you gave me the idea (unbeknownst to you)! I was scrolling through and saw your posts on how you liked The Fallen series and I disagreed so I thought hmmm we could debate that :). I have read all 4 books and only gave 4 a 2star and tiny review I need to go back and review them all it was a mixed bag for me.

message 16: by L.P. (new)

L.P. Dover | 70 comments @Michele- I love a good debate. It would be pretty fun to see how each person gives their pros and cons and see which one outweighs the other. I helped you come up with something. I'm not useless after all.

message 17: by Michele (new)

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments Aww no your not useless at all!! (hugs)

message 18: by Athena Ivashkova ~♥~ (last edited Aug 02, 2012 07:55PM) (new)

Athena Ivashkova ~♥~ How about we write a paranormal story. It must be at least 15-20 pages, and it must be done on Microsoft word or different if you have a Mac. We post them at here, and the moderators will each take time to read them over. But whoever wants to participate here, writes their name on this post.
Following:
Badass heroines
Must be original (as original as it gets...like vampires; but make them different.)
An intriguing, compelling love story. (no love triangles!!)
Make the plot unexpected and mysterious; with intense-kickass action
Don't make the story too smutty: a warning
Make the feelings portrayed here look genuine, and make the surrounding feel like your part of the story,and....PUT SEXY, RESPONSIBLE, LOYAL, BADASS, SNARKY GUYS HERE!!!!
I went overboard, and this just popped in my head :P
But consider it! xP
And: make this paranormal story funny too.

message 20: by Michele (new)

Michele Miller (authormichelegmiller) | 747 comments I think Sept should be sequel month..read as many sequels to your already read books you can. I have several sequels I need to get to in my own-TBR shelf.

Just refresh my memory, what are sequels? (stupid question, i know :)

Marie-Claude aka MC | 198 comments Thanks for the idea Michele, we might do that for October... Already had an idea for September!! :P

Marie-Claude aka MC | 198 comments Oh and a sequel is the next book in a series... Like Insurgent is Divergent's sequel. Or New Moon is Twilight's sequel... ;)

ARgh! But I need to read some of these book 2s, Im dying here! HAHA, I guess I just need to make more time to read more ;)

message 26: by Donna (new)

Donna Galanti (donnagalanti) | 4 comments Throwing out some challenges ideas here...how about books with scariest cover, books by debut authors, books that are cross genre. I like the book to movie idea too! For random contests perhaps some authors here would want to give away their books (I would!). Sounds like fun!

message 27: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments As your new Challenge Queen, I have reviewed all your past suggestions and am happy to report that some match with what I have planned. :)

Keep them coming!!! There are lots of months coming up and I could run out of ideas! Gasp!

message 28: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments Hmmmm, yes....I like it. I already thought of a cool twist I can pull for this one. I will PM you and you can let me know what you think. :)

message 29: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments I have so many ideas, I wish I could just post them all at once!!! But, that would be a bit much ;)

What I will say is that I'm thinking 3 monthly challenges every month, longer Quarterly challenges,
and one big yearly challege.

message 30: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments I will be using your ideas every month as a special Member's Challenge! I'll randomly pick one, give you credit, and then enter you for the random prize even if you don't actually participate for the month. I have one lined up for December. That's when I'll actually start this....so, keep the ideas coming!

Miley Styles (cymariizwaankhan) | 21 comments And could you do something about the extreme horror fans too? :P like have something - a different topic or whatever for people who dont read YA type stuff too much but want real horror?

message 32: by Agent Dream (new)

Agent Dream | 0 comments I have an idea, what about a challenge like you name your favorite author, and you have to read as many books as you can find with the authors comment on it! Like on Paranormalcy, Becca Fitzpatrick has a comment on the book and why she loved it! Like a challenge like that?

message 33: by Britt (new)

Britt Gotay (brittgotay) I have to admit, the group bookworm bitches has some really good challenges for both short term and long term

message 34: by Britt (new)

Britt Gotay (brittgotay) One that I plan on doing is a long term one called A-Z title challenge. You have to read a book of any kind, but you cannot duplicate the letter. If the book starts with A or The you can use the next word as the first letter

I like the idea of that challenge. I think I'm going to try that this year and see if I can get through the entire alphabet. Thanks for the idea.

Claire (belladoll) | 173 comments We could do a red dress/red coat cover challenge for February and Valentines?

message 37: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) How about Unusual reads? wherein you get to choose a book in your least favorite genre/genres you haven't tried to read?

message 38: by Holly (new)

Holly (bsbabey) | 61 comments Okay, here are my thoughts on contests: Although I don't have a specific idea in mind, I would like to comment on the way the winner is picked. I notice that a lot of times it is the person who reads the most, or has the most points. There are some insanely fast readers, and there is a large potential for cheating that way. (Someone could just mark multiple books as read and claim they did it even though they didn't.) I think this is unfair to people who read at a normal or slower pace. I would suggest doing something like...whomever reads 10 books gets put in a drawing for the prize. This gives everyone a fighting chance to win.

message 39: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments Yes, we have both. I do understand what you're saying, it is a concern of mine as well. I do have something in mind that I've been thinking about implementing with future challenges.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments Beatrice wrote: "How about Unusual reads? wherein you get to choose a book in your least favorite genre/genres you haven't tried to read?"

My only issue with these types of challenges is that it will be too much work for me to review everyone's tastes to make sure that what they are reading for the challenge is actually not something they would normally read. Know what I mean?

Thanks for the suggestion though!!!

message 41: by Cristina (new)

Cristina (mrsbudryzer) | 371 comments How many challenges are too many? Can we have too many???

Please give me your feedback!
