Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments Everyone loves good cover art, so I thought it would be fun to start a general thread her for collecting some of the new, great cover art as it's released. I've gathered together some of the recently revealed cover art that has me excited:

Red Country by Joe Abercrombie

Halo: Silentium by Greg Bear

Blood of Dragons by Robin Hobb

The Dirty Streets of Heaven by Tad Williams

The Hydrogen Sonata by Iain M. Banks

Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton

I'll keep adding to this thread as new cover art is revealed, and I hope the rest of the community here will, too!

Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments Ahh, good news. Wasn't sure what the house rules were for embedding big images. I'll use that going forward.

:)

Warren | 1556 comments Thanks. The links are nice.
You can embed large images
but it will not make you very popular on the forum.

message 5: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7224 comments You can say 'width=' and 'height=' for the more technical.

Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments Embedded images, for those who don't want to click through the links. I'm happy to do it either way. I've linked the images to the source, for those interested in learning more about the books/covers.

Red Country by Joe Abercrombie

Halo: Silentium by Greg Bear

Blood of Dragons by Robin Hobb

The Dirty Streets of Heaven by Tad Williams

The Hydrogen Sonata by Iain M. Banks

Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton

Any suggestions to improve this thread are welcome!

Tamahome | 7224 comments I definitely like the UK version of the Abercrombie more than the US version.

message 8: by Aidan (new)

Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus re: Abercrombie's cover. The Orbit/US covers certainly get their point across, but you can't match the style of the Gollancz/UK covers. I look forward to seeing the new Abercrombie cover every year.

kvon | 563 comments If you can find the name of the artists, I think that's a plus. I'm not sure how hard that is to find, if you don't have a copy of the book.

Those look nice & they're a reasonable size. Thanks.
Side note-I wonder how the rise of ebooks will effect cover art?
On the one hand- there are fewer hard covers sold.Hence less money to go around. On the other hand-if you want to sell a hard copy then the book had better have good cover art.

Warren | 1556 comments These are great. I'm glad that you started this thread.
I bought the first dozen of:
"Spectrum; The Best in Contemporary Fiction and Fantasy Art."
(a wonderful series). I've tried to talk the library into buying them all.
No luck.

Skip | 517 comments Click the "(some html is okay)" link above the comment box to see how to get it to display correctly. Even though it says that Height, Width and Alt are optional, I find the site has less issues if you use them. Using the preview link is also your friend. ;)

Ulmer Ian (eean) | 341 comments Well I'm sold on Serene Invasion. Partly because I like the stuff I've read of Eric Brown previously, solid scifi, but mostly for that kickass cover. :)
