Ever since watching Anne of Green Gables I've wanted to go to PEI. Have you been there? If so, what's it like?

Actually, yes, I've been there! I went there a long long time ago, and I was there just for one day. So we didn't see much... But it's beautiful. A very beautiful place. But it's kinda boring. There isn't that much to do, sadly. This is a place I'd go to relax though. It's a very calming place! =)
For a tourist, I'd suggest many more places to visit in Canada before PEI! ;)

From Sri Lanka. We are like neighbors! :D"
Yeah maybe I should just jump the fence to say hi lol :D

Lol sounds like a plan :D.( gosh we are crazy)

I have a question and I hope it's not stupid but, do people in Canada speak mostly English or French?

I'm right around the corner from you here in Belmont, NC.

It's not stupid! They speak mostly English. The ONLY French province is Québec, where I live. We're about 8 millions in the province (and not all speaks French, but most do!) and we're maybe 38 millions in the entire country... So you do the math! LOL
But there are some areas where they speak french too.. A lot of people in New Brunswick speaks French, as a matter of fact it's the only province who is 'officially' considered bilingual. Lots of French in Eastern Ontario and there's quite a bit of French in Manitoba.
But to be honest... Us French-Canadians are fighters. LOL We are SURROUNDED by English so we are fighting very hard to preserve our culture. =)

Oh wow, that's awesome. Again, please excuse this question if it's stupid, but are there a lot of Americans that have moved up there. I'm just curious. I never really thought about it before. I took French in high school but I never learned it fluently. I would love to though. My mom had bought some kind of cd collection to learn it, but she didn't get very far.

I couldn't tell you if there are a lof of Americans who moved up here. There must be more in the bigger 'English' cities such as Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. I don't think many Americans moved up here in Québec where they would be forced to learn French and send their kids to school in French... Because all immigrants that comes to Québec, their kids HAVE to go school in French, it's the law. ;)

I couldn't tell you if there a..."
Interesting! I did not know it was the law in Quebec to do French school. Good for them I think it's good that they want to keep their heritage intact.
I lived in Southern Maine growing up until 7th grade so met lots of French Canadians in the harbors. I never got to go their though (Canada).

Hey, that's great. I fully support that. I don't see why you would have to learn a new language to accommodate people who move into your country not knowing the language. I wouldn't even attempt to move to another country without learning their language. My French teacher in high school used to get onto me in class because I had a southern accent while speaking my french instead of pronouncing it in more of a French accent.

Well, we still have English schools. For us citizens the law is different. In order to go to English school, ONE of your parent must have received an English education. Like me, for example, if I would have want to go to English school (primary+high school), I wouldn't have been able to, because BOTH my parents went to school in French. If one of them would have went to English school, then I would have had the choice. But the immigrants... They figure that if they chose our place to live, well they must adapt to our culture. And yes, I am really happy that it is the way it is. In Montréal, which is the biggest city, it is not rare that you will be served in English rather than in French... Which makes me sad. That lady who works at Subway understands French, but she won't speak it to me. That's just plain rude, if you ask me. It is a REQUIREMENT to speak French when working with the public. Of course, being bilingual will help you get the job, but you're suppose to speak French. Sadly, not everyone respects these rules and this is what makes it hard for us to accept.
Wow this is such an important subject to me, you have no idea. I get carried away. LOL

Well, we still..."
I think that is so awesome!! I never knew that's how it was up there. I really hope to visit one day. I'll make sure I freshen up on some French before I go. The part about the different schools is wild. That you could have a choice between English and French schools if you had the choice to choose. Were the French schools more crowded?

But eh, if you're not coming to Québec... Don't bother with French, they don't speak it... LOL :P

And for the Frenchies, we had 3 high schools for grade 6-7-8 and then we would all get together in the bigger high school for the remaining years.
One other thing that's crazy... We have one year less of high school than everyone else, but before we get to go to College, we have to go through another school, which we call CEGEP, which is 2 years (sometimes 3, depending on the program)... So normally, we don't start College until we're like 20.

We do have some 5yr high schools here where you basically graduate with a 2yr degree.

OMG, wow I'm getting a Canadian lifestyle lesson here. This is awesome!! Things are really different up there. I can't believe you have to go to a different type of school before college. Yeah I can see how that would discourage people on continuing their education.

Yeah, I personally never went to college. I wanted to be a translator, and translate books obviously... But in CEGEP (we call it college here, and 'your' college we all call university!), they gave me like history of art, philosophy, psychology courses... I mean seriously?!?! I didn't give a CRAP about that. I wanted to get creative writing courses, French and English courses... Don't teach me a bunch of stuff that I won't need in University...
And I got fed up. I gave up. Sadly. I will always regret it. Now I work for a bank. I like my job, but it isn't my passion. I have a great income, and I can't complain... But it is JUST a job... =(

People don't get married so young here... Most people start thinking about their family life at age 25-30. I'm 28, still single, and I don't feel like an outcast because of it... LOL If you get married at 20 here, they'll call you crazy. :P

THE question... No. I would never move to the States. I don't like how things are being managed down there. I don't like their politics much. And how I love my health insurance... ;)

I HATE MY WINTER.
But I'd move to Europe before going to the States! ;)

Hahaha, we don't like our politics here much either ;) oh well what can you do. I love the USA and we have a lot of freedoms and opportunities that other don't so I guess if we have to deal with the crazy politicians so be it.

I want beaches and sun!!!! :P

You should come visit Leslie and I, we live like 40 min apart, and we'll go on a beach vacay!
