50.1 Coralie's task: Moonshadow – the Musical
Everywhere you go around town at the moment you see ads for the world premiere of Moonshadow the musical by Cat Stevens. So, to get in the spirit..

Choose three of the following options and read a book for each of them.

Option 1 - Read a book with the word "moon" or "shadow" in the title/subtitle ex. Carolina Moon, A Fall of Moondust, Seduced by Moonlight, Shadowmarch
OR
read a book with "cat" or "steven" in the author’s name. ex. Catherine Coulter, Edwidge Danticat, Willa Cather, Robert Louis Stevenson, Steven D. Levitt

Variations are permissible as long as the entire word is included consecutively.

Option 2- Read a book that has been made into a stage musical, movie musical, or opera. Here's a list of musicals to get you started but there are more
Required: Please identify the musical or opera when you post. Please explain the connection if it isn't apparent in the book description

Option 3 - Read a book about Islam or set in a country where Islam is the major religion or with a main character who is a Muslim.
Required: Please identify the country setting or Muslim character when you post.

Option 4 – Cat Stevens and Yusuf are the same person performing under different names. Read a book written by an author who writes under more than one name.
Required: Please include a Goodreads link to the author and identify at least one of the author's pseudonyms when you post. Include an offsite reference if the pseudonym is not included in the author's biography.

Option 5 - The musical is being performed in Australia, so read a book set in Australia.

Option 6 – The musical Moonshadow is described as an epic fantasy. Read a book that has ‘epic fantasy’ as a genre on its main Goodreads page.

Option 7 – Read a book where the complete title of one of Cat Stevens’ or Yusuf’s songs appears in the title and/or subtitle ex. Moonshadow, Blue Monday, Bitterblue, Along the Way: The Journey of a Father and Son (Father and Son)
Required: Please include the song title when you post

Option 8 – Yusuf Islam was born in England to a Greek-Cypriot father and a Swedish mother. Read a book by an author who was born in the UK, Greece, Cyprus or Sweden.
Required: Please include in your post a Goodreads link to the author and an offsite reference if the author's birthplace is not identified on Goodreads

Required: Please state the options you chose when you post.

A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle

Thank you!

Kathy G. | 1931 comments If the above doesn't work "because the title is broken up" does this one work?

The Wind's Twelve Quarters by Ursula K. Le Guin

Thanks

message 7: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) How fun! I think this is what I'll be doing:

Option 1: Shadow and Bone
Option 2: Anna Karenina
Option 7: Ready Player One (or The Diamond Age: Or, a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer or Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void)

These are all on my TBR, and I'm glad there's a place for them in this challenge!

They all look fine.

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments oh this is great - I was looking for a way to fit Anne of Avonlea into the challenge and I jsut saw that there was a musical Anne & Gilbert based on both it and Anne of the Island - Coralie, you might be my new favorite person ;)

message 12: by Coralie (new)

Coralie It's amazing just how many musicals there are out there that I've never heard of. I put that option there to encourage myself to finally finish Les Misérables.

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments I love Les Mis the musical, but have never dared the book

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3043 comments That book is like 1000 pages.

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 815 comments I wanted to see if Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione would work for option 4. Larissa Ione is part of a duo that writes under pen name Sydney Croft. Larissa Ione

Yes, I would accept that as writing under two names.

3. The White Pearlby Kate Furnivall which is set in the 1940s in Malay which I believe is now Malaysia which is on the list of countries where Islam is a main religion

5. Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman- Set mainly in Australia.

message 23: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments For Option 1, "Cat" can't be in the title of the book, can it? For example, Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter?

message 24: by Coralie (new)

Coralie Sam - Yes, I will approve those.

Ashley - No, 'cat' is for the author only.

message 26: by Coralie (new)

Coralie Claire wrote: "1. Carolina Moon - Nora Roberts

2. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Mark Twain

4. Shopaholic Ties The Knot - Sophie Kinsella"

They look good to me.

message 27: by Bea (last edited Jul 29, 2012 03:18AM) (new)

Bea My current choices are:

1. Finding Moon

3. The Places in Between - set in Afghanistan

8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling - British author

However, I really wanted to do option 4. Does anyone have the link from a past SRC task where we had to find an author who wrote under another name?

Thanks Coralie. I just need to decide on my 3rd option now.

Christina Popsuj (cpopsuj) | 91 comments Hello, I'd like to use a book by John Sanford for option 4. John Sanford is a pseudonym for John Camp, and he has published under both names. http://www.johnsandford.org/author.html Does this work?

Deana (ablotial) | 276 comments Just want to check on the ability to use one-word song titles for option 7. For instance:

"Life" in "Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat"

or

"Time" in "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian"

Thanks and sorry for the late question!
