“What makes a treasure a treasure…is how rare a find it is, when you need it most.” (p.82) Oliver is given three items from the mermaids: a fire extinguisher, a megaphone, and a shark’s tooth. How do these items help Oliver later, making them “treasures” when he needs them most? What ordinary items have become treasures for you? Discuss.

Books are my treasures because I can read them over and over and they never change on me. Plus, they aren't mean to me and I can loose myself in them.
Books are my treasures. I get smarter from reading them. And I can use the knowledge for living my life.
Books are my treasures because when I read them, I can escape to another world. Some of the books I can fantasize that it is me in the book and it helps me get thru a rough day. There are other books that are life lessons as well.
