Heidi (butbooksarebetter) I am currently listening to the audio version of Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. It is brilliant - very disturbing in places, but Flynn has a way of capturing the atmosphere and giving life to her characters that make you feel as if you are there watching it unfold (which does take you to very dark places at times). Also a great narration, with different voices telling the story from different perspectives. I can hardly tear myself away.

donna (donnahag) | 11 comments I am reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn actually just really started and it seem pretty good so far. The Black Dahlia (L.A. Quartet, #1) by James Ellroy will definately be my next one!

Excellent. I love audio books Heidi and it makes a big difference to the enjoyment of the book when the narrator is good.

After your post I checked out my local Library & they have Dark Places on Audio too so I'm going to give it a go :)

Good luck with that one...I'd love to know what you both think, as I didn't like Gone Girl's ending at all.

Ah You're not alone there. I've read several reviews to say they didn't like the ending either. I didn't mind the ending

This one is totally different, Brenda - brilliant! I found the ending satisfying. If you don't mind the odd graphic and horrible scene, this thriller is well worth giving it a go. One of the best suspense novels I have read - I had no idea what was really going on until all was revealed.

Heidi (butbooksarebetter) Michael wrote: "Currently reading The Treatment by Mo Hayder. I had never heard of the author she is highly regarded by a few of my workmates so thought i would give it a go and so far so good. :)"

A friend of mine gave me Pig Island by Mo Hayder, thinking I would love it, but I gave up around 1/2 way though the book. I have a pretty strong stomach, but there was something off about the story which made me feel dirty somehow - however, I'm interested to see what you think of this one, I may give her another try.
