What are you planning to reading during August? I've got so many books that I have to get through. The Master and Margarita, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, Mystic River and The Dinner for my multiple book clubs. Thirst and The Twelve have been sent to me from publishers so I really need to get the them this month as well. Also book I'm planning to read for myself are The Gone-Away World and The Angel's Game; I hope I have time for them all

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Do try to make time for The Angel's Game. It's not as wonderful as The Shadow of the Wind, but it's a great read. This month, I'll be reading Zufon's third book in the trilogy, The Prisoner of Heaven. For book clubs, I'll be reading Family Matters, I Am the Messenger, Londoners: The Days and Nights of London Now--As Told by Those Who Love It, Hate It, Live It, Left It, and Long for It, The Paris Wife, and rereads (skims) of The Master and Margarita, and A Moveable Feast. From my personal TBR, To Be Sung Underwater, and The Tiger's Wife.

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim OK let's see what I've got planned for August.

For book clubs I'll be reading Assassin's Apprentice, The Master and Margarita, Against the Tide of Years, The Rook, Cloud Atlas, and need to finish Under Heaven.

On my own I want to read Thieftaker, A Confederacy of Dunces, A Canticle for Leibowitz, The Columbus Affair and we'll see if there's time for anything else.

message 4: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nantown) | 46 comments Right now I'm reading Broken Harbour and also plan to read The Master and Margarita, The House of Mirth and State of Wonder.

message 5: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (vikki1) | 22 comments Currently reading Dear Fatty. Then plan to read book club reads of The Master and Margarita and Uglies. Also hoping to get to Schindler's List and The Shipping News.

message 6: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I just finished Wolf Hall last night. Now I am only reading The Master and Margarita, Anna Karenina, The Killer Inside Me, and How Did You Get This Number. I'm really enjoying all but How Did You Get This Number, which is not very good. I've got Ready Player One and two John Green books that I'm dying to start reading but I feel like I should get through my Group reads first. We'll see how long that lasts.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) For the bookclubs I'm in: Jane Eyre, About a Boy, Jeeves in the Morning and The Color of Magic.

Finally received from the library: Cinder, 11/22/63, Room and Left Neglected.

For fun: The Handmaid's Tale and She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana.

But who knows what I'll actually end up reading, sometimes I just decide I'm not in the mood for them, scrap the whole lot and start over. ;)

message 8: by Franky (new)

Franky Just finished All the King’s Men and The Iceman Cometh. For this month, I plan on trying to read all the group reads: The Yiddish Policemen's Union, The Master and Margarita, and The Optimist's Daughter. Busy month, I hope I can read all these.

I read Ready Player One recently, I loved it, Reamde is vaguely similar and brilliant too.

I just finished A Dance With Dragons, The Fry Chronicles and Hokkaido Highway Blues. I couldn't get a decent ebook of The Master and Margarita, so I may grab it from the library, but I've also started The Satanic Verses. I read all of the songs of Fire and Ice books in July so I'm still gasping for breath really. I have way too many books lined up to read, so I usually dip my toes into a few before one grabs my ankle and drags me into its depths.

message 10: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper yesterday. Now I'm reading Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich.

message 11: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've already finished Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich, which was a short but hilarious novel, an now I'm about to start reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen.

message 12: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (zeldas) | 57 comments I still reading the group read, Master and Margarita, which is getting tedious due many allusions which are unknown to me. I hope to finish soon and reread the Great Gatsby. Something Wicked Comes This Way is also on my TBR list.

I'm currently reading Fifty Shames of Earl Grey, it's hilarious

Alicia (soitgoes815) This thread reads like a list of 'Books I've Been Wanting to Read.' Cloud Atlas, The Yiddish Policeman's Union, Ready Player One, The Satanic Verses, etc. I take this as a sign we all have excellent taste.

Right now I'm reading Leviathan Wakes, which is a really entertaining space drama. I'm more than halfway through it already, and I'll probably finish it quickly even though it's pretty long. After that, I don't know. Anytime I make a list I usually end up deviating from it.

message 15: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (soitgoes815) No, I just happened to come across LW at the bookstore. After reading the first couple chapters I decided to buy it despite the backlog of books I've already got. What's the S&L book club?

message 16: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (soitgoes815) Thanks for the link. I've actually watched some stuff on geek & sundry before, but I hadn't subscribed or looked over everything they publish. I'll be sure to watch their review after I finish the book.

Definitely check out 2312. It was one of the most interesting sci-fi books I'd read in a while. He writes about philsophical, ecological, and cultural issues intelligently.

Thanks for the tip about 2312,I'd actually forgotten I have it, and Robopocalypse. I'll check them out next, I'm nearly finished Satanic Verses. and need a change of pace.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) I just had surgery yesterday and apparently underestimated what impact that would have on my reading capabilities. So I think the only books I'll be able to read this month are The Handmaid's Tale and 11/22/63 since they're on my Kindle and I can hold that relatively easily, haha.

Way less books than I would like to be reading but better than none!

message 20: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen this morning and now I'm about to start I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith.

Barbara (zeldas) | 57 comments I will be finishing the group read The Master and Margarita and then begin Coastliners

message 22: by Kim (new)

Kim I've barely had any time to read this month. Have hardly touched my club reads. This will probably be my slowest month in ages.

message 23: by Franky (new)

Franky Finished Witness for the Prosecution and almost finished with The Optimist's Daughter. I started reading 40 Model Essays: A Portable Anthology and hope to get to The Master and Margarita soon. I'll be busy this month though, so who knows.

message 24: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and I've started The Last Girl by Jane Casey this morning.

message 25: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Willis I just finished Thinner and am now reading Salvation City.

message 26: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished the 3rd book in the Maeve Kerrigan series The Last Girl by Jane Casey last night - I really enjoyed this novel and I can't wait till the next one! Jane Casey is becoming one of my favourite crime authors. This morning, I began reading One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf.

message 27: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf yesterday - It's a brilliant novel. I couldn't put it down! I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Now I'm about to start the 9th book in the Stephanie Plum series To the Nines by Janet Evanovich.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) I've just finished my first time reading To Kill a Mockingbird and Flowers for Algernon. Now I'm trying to sludge my way through the (in my opinion) terribly boring We Were the Mulvaneys.

If its boring give it up. Never waste your life on books you don't enjoy. At least thats my philosophy.

That's usually my philosophy, as well. But my Mum has been pestering me to finish this one so she has someone to chat about it with. The things we do for those we love..

message 31: by Jenny (last edited Aug 28, 2012 01:06PM) (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) I just realized that everything I am reading at the moment is written by Irish authors. Weird coincidence. Just finished reading Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín which is just a stunning book really. Beautifully written and with so much love for it's characters. I am also still reading Molloy, Malone Dies, The Unnamable by Beckett which is fantastic as well but a much more challenging read, and I will be finishing the last novel in The Barrytown Trilogy: The Commitments / The Snapper / The Van by Roddy Doyle which so far I have enjoyed a lot as well. So far, I think August - thanks to the Irish - is my best reading month in 2012 so far.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) I'm kind of surprised at how little activity is in this group, for it being such a big group and with such good topics at hand! August comes to a close today and I haven't seen any September threads come up or any mention of the September book. Is the group still reading it? I've eagerly got my copy in hand reading to read my very first Faulkner book.

Relevancy to the thread: I just finished About a Boy and am starting The Color of Magic for a group read I'm moderating in another group. =)
