Jeff Young (CityBoy) | 18 comments My post is really two posts in one.

1) Modern bodice rippers.
Does anyone think a modern bodice ripper could be penned? It doesn't have to be 2012. It could be set in the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s. Or it could be set in the 1930s and 40s like one of those classic Hollywood noir movies. The advantage is being able to apply modern customs, technologies, women's fashions, et al.

2) Write your own bodice ripper.
We have so many bodice ripper fans here. I'm sure someone or some people have writing skills. Has anyone attempted to pen their own bodice ripper, whether in short story or long story form?

Jeff

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) Sounds like fun. I'm not a writer but I might try my hand if I get inspired.

I've been writing a bodice-ripper for a couple years now. Actually, I'm not really sure you'd classify it as a bodice-ripper; more of a romance novel. I haven't decided what time period it'll be written in, but I know there will be no lurid hate sex or rape, because that doesn't really get my netherparts to quivering with lust and imagination.

That means your aspiring book is really just a romance novel. No dig against you. The very definition of a bodice ripper is all kinds of passionate, lurid, graphic sex, some of it consenual, some of it not, even between the heroine and her love. -Jeff

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) Got to have a ripped bodice in there somewhere. lol

Ok, but do you think it's possible for a bodice-ripper to be a bodice-ripper without the non-consensual (i.e., rape and violence), but still keep all the passion and graphic sex? Maybe that's what my book is about; I'm not sure yet.

No, and no again. Us bd ripper fans keep trying to tell you nicely. No rough sex...no bodice ripper. You want passionate, lurid, wet consensual sex? Have had it all you want...in a conventional romance novel. Go google the term, 'bodice ripper romance novel', and read about it on Wikipedia. There's a distinct, fine line diffence between bodice ripper romance novels and conventional romance novels. Women sometimes pick either one or the other but more often than not, read both, which balances out both ends of the pendulum of the female sexual libido id. Gotta have one with the other for a healthy sex life, if you know what I mean.

I'd not call it a bodice-ripper anymore but just normal romance with which i see nothing wrong at all. I think you should write about what you're the most in tune with even if it would not be considered/called a bodice-ripper for there are thousands of people who'd like to read your type of book, myself included. Of course bodice-ripper books have a special place in my heart even if i read them very rarely, since they leave too much of an emotional impact on me.
But i'd not really equate passion with rape, violence or graphic sex (they can contribute to it if done in a right way and if it suits the plot) but rather with the right mix of complexity of characters, creativity of dialog and situations in which the characters find themselves in, among other things of course. There are books that made me blush in which the main characters only kissed and nothing more.

But to answer the question. It'd be one my dreams come true to be able to write a bodice-ripper of my own but i have to admit my word building and grammar aren't the best P.

Jeff Young (CityBoy) | 18 comments Have all you ladies here ever pondered and fantasized yourself in a bodice ripper romance novel? The answer is of course, yes, you all have. But the big question is, can you ladies envision yourselves going through all the rough and wet passion and multiple sex, even nonconsensual, even the taboo...forced orgasm or unintended orgasm at the hands of the bad boy heroine or one or several lust-crazed villains who need to have you at any cost? Can you just get up, smooth out your ruffled or torn bodice and dress, toss your head back and walk away, just dismissing your travails and ordeals as something that's an occupational hazard of being a beautiful young woman and that all men, handsome or not, good guys and bad guys, simply can't control themselves in going after your body? Why don't some of you gals try it? Write your own bodice ripper with yourself in it? Just how much would you subject yourself to, even in a fantasy novel? I bet this prospect makes your heart race with all kinds of emotions.

Jeff, I'm putting on my mod hat and suggesting that there is a line that is fast approaching the point of being crossed.

I know we're all adults here and can discuss sexual matters, but it seems to be more of a focus for some members and is creating an impression that is not sitting comfortably with everyone.

There are plenty of other topics in existing threads. I encourage you to diversify your areas of interest wrt bodice ripper discussion.

Like a pro wrestler who's just as cheesy as the genre? Good idea. I might take a page from your book and slip it in ... a couple times. :)
