Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments This is the place to discuss Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism by Daniel Pinchbeck, the group non-fiction choice for the next two months.

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments Is anyone going to try this one? I think I have it somewhere from a while ago, so I'll reread if I can find it.

Sara I ordered this, Nell. And I do plan to read it. The problem I have at the moment is I'm already reading about 6 different books. I'm still mired in the middle of the last non-fiction book, which is among the 6. SMBSLT, as we say.

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments I always used to read one book at a time until I joined GR - now it's usually half a dozen. But life's probably too short to persevere if you're feeling mired, and there's always Bookcrossing to mitigate any vestige of guilt.

Off now to meditate on the meaning of SMBSLT, which for the moment is eluding me...:)

It is a barbarous name of an ancient evil...write it using Phoenician script on hemp parchment and burn it with vanilla pods. It is the monkey on our backs, the baboon faced homunculus that follows us into bookshops and libraries, all the while whispering covetously in our ear "You know you want them..."

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments Well, the meditation worked (with a little help from Google ;)), but your magickal description is a delicious deviation from the mundane, OB. Do you write stuff at all?

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments :) I smile, but suspect you're not joking...

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 1682 comments How's it going? He has a very chatty easy-to-read style - pure journalism. I did wonder why the section on The Burning Man was in there though - it seemed like padding to me, but I'm probably being too critical again. I enjoyed it on the whole.
