MJ (zombette) | 545 comments I am only on page 150 and yes, I admit I have never read this. I did say never. For shame!

This morning at 4am I was reading this before I left for work. My husband was already at work and jeeeeeesuuussss!! The part where the guys are doing the delivery and lock ups....ooohhhh chilling. I imagine it only gets better!

I have seen the movie but not in a long while.

Ardy Ardy (ardybooks) | 1657 comments When one of the greatest horror authors of all time tackles one of the greatest horror subjects of all time, you get one of the greatest horror novels of all time. To think, Stephen King was just starting out when he wrote that one! Have you read the Dark Tower? Salem's Lot doesn't end with that book.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments I own this book and have not read it either.

Rachel | 1434 comments I really liked Salem's Lot. It took me a while to read it because vampires most often bore me but the characters are well developed. I've seen both movies and own the older one.

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments A King classic!

message 6: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) I scared the crap out of myself reading this one. I was tent camping. I couldn't stop reading it. The shadow the flashlight created were really bad. But ever worse was when I had to leave the tent walk up the road to the outhouse. Every tiny branch noise would cause me to gasp. I probably would have screamed if any living creature had showed its face.

hahaha

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments There is no way on God's green earth I'd read a vampire book while camping in a tent.

message 8: by Char (new)

Char | 17465 comments I loved Salem's Lot.
To this day, if I hear anything near any window of my house, that scene (you know which one!) pops into my head. Now that's a lasting impression because I last read SL about 20 years ago.

message 9: by Tim (new)

Tim McGregor Jeez, I haven't read Salem's Lot in a long time. I wonder how it holds up.

I saw the TV miniseries as a kid (the one with David Soul and James Mason, not that wretched remake) and it scared the bejesus out of me. Charlene knows what I'm talking about. In fact, that may have been the last time vampires were frightening. They weren't tragic or romantic, they were creepy and inhuman.

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Yeah, the recent TV movie reboot sucked...pun intended.

message 11: by Char (new)

Char | 17465 comments There was a newer Salem's Lot?

I don't think anything could hold up to the David Soul version. (Wow, that's something I thought I would never say!) Something about it scared the crap out of me.

Ian McClellan | 540 comments Of all the books I've read this is the only one that I can remember really scaring me. Of course I read it over 20 years ago when I was 12 or 13. I'm going to start rereading this today.

message 13: by Ardy (new)

Ardy Ardy (ardybooks) | 1657 comments Yeah, it's next on my list too. Gave a copy to my sister to introduce her to real vampires after she read Twilight. She loved it.

MJ (zombette) | 545 comments I am falling in love with King all over again.

message 15: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 134 comments My favorite vampire novel.

message 16: by David (new)

David Searls | 3 comments I've read Salem's Lot probably about three time. I think it's King's second-best...right after The Shining. Then comes Pet Semetary, says I.

Salem's Lot is the first King novel I ever read and my favorite, followed by The Dead Zone.

That scene in the David Soul version of the scratching at the window! Eeeek!
