This challenge takes some cool facts about September and turns them into a challenge. Thank you, Nathaly!

Rules:
- Challenge runs from September 1st through September 30th
- All book formats are allowed
- Re-reads are fine

1. September comes from the Latin words septem, meaning seven and septimus, meaning seventh. Read a book with "Seven" (or a variation in its title), that is seventh in its series, or a book with 7 as one of the digits in its page numbers.

2. The flower for the month of September is the aster which symbolizes love. Read a book whose theme is about love (does not need to be romantic love).

3. The very first comic strip was printed in an American newspaper on September 11th, 1875. Read a comic book, graphic novel, or manga OR tell us about your favorite comic and why it's your favorite.

4. The 4th week of September is National Dog Week. Read a book where a central character is an animal or the book is about animals OR tell us what your favorite animal is and why it's your favorite. (For bonus points, post your favorite youtube video of it.)

Nathaly will be our leader for this challenge.

3. The very first comic strip was printed in an American newspaper on September 11th, 1875. Read a comic book, graphic novel, or manga OR tell us about your favorite comic and why it's your favorite.

Well I have zero interest in reading a manga or graphic novel so I guess I will talk about comics. To be honest, I haven't read a comic strip since I was a kid. I liked the old ones...Peanuts, Marmaduke, and Cathy. I can't say why specifically I like the cartoons I listed other than they are just a few of the classics that I grew up on. I don't even know if the Cincinnati Enquirer runs comics anymore. I don't read comic books either.

4. The 4th week of September is National Dog Week. Read a book where a central character is an animal or the book is about animals OR tell us what your favorite animal is and why it's your favorite. (For bonus points, post your favorite youtube video of it.)

Turtle Moon by Alice Hoffman Police Dogs used by the MC are central to the plot- FINISHED 9/8/12

message 17: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I'll go for 2... I've got a huge tbr list for September but the darn books don't match these categories! haha. I think it likely one will have love in it (category 2) and a graphic novel (category 3) won't take long to read so I'll try to complete those two categories. :D

**My favorite comic strip is Cathy - Why I like this one is summed up in the Intro on GoComics: Cathy is the Everywoman. She deals with diets, self-esteem, in-laws, and letting her husband know that she is the boss. Everyone can identify with her shopping, bills, taxes, planning for the future and coping with her husband’s incessant computer golf games. Whether you are a newlywed, single, or have been married for decades, all will enjoy the daily predicaments of Cathy and Irving.

My favorite comic strip is Garfield. He is the funniest cat ever. I've only read one comic book in my life and it was a Batman comic book. My Dad loves Batman, so I guess he is my favorite, too.

4. The 4th week of September is National Dog Week. Read a book where a central character is an animal or the book is about animals OR tell us what your favorite animal is and why it's your favorite. (For bonus points, post your favorite youtube video of it.)
I have two favorite animals. 1. I love cows. They are so mellow, and I've always wanted a pet cow, lol. 2. I love dogs. My rescue puppy is the best!

Same with me, Ashley. I really loved the book, it made me laugh and cry a lot. I could relate to it really easily, having a dog myself. I can tell from my own experience, that it's not always easy to have a little child and a puppy with a lot of energy, but I can't imagine our family without a dog.
