When you can't sleep do you pull out a book? Can you read when you can't sleep? Any books you read in a last ditch effort to deal with the can't sleep blues that turned out to be winner?

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments I used to have insomnia a while back, and I would always pull out my phone and read a book, until my eyes would get so dry and gritty I had to close them, and then maybe sleep would come :)

Awilk -never sleeps- (awilk) | 98 comments I can't use a book to help me get to sleep. I end up not stopping until the book is finished, no matter how tired I become.

Ashley (shinhbang) | 139 comments I love books, and I wouldn't use them as a tool to make me sleep faster. I don't know, but for me, it just doesn't feel right.

Not really. Once I go to bed I try to stay there. Even if I can't sleep. I'm more likely to watch tv if I have insomnia. And I rarely watch tv anymore.

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments Books tend to keep me awake, that is why I read at work (night shift). When I can't sleep I watch tv.

I can't watch tv when I have insomnia. Nothing really seems to help, to be honest. Sometimes I will read a book until I fall asleep.

message 8: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments I get awfully restless if I watch TV with insomnia. Reading calms me down, so that's why I stick to it

I agree!

message 10: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) I agree, reading is better than watching telly to settle down, but if I get caught in the book that's the end of me!

message 11: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 12 comments Books keep me awake too. Once I start a story I have a hard time putting it down. I always need to know how its ends before I can sleep peacefully.

I've been known to stay up too late reading myself, Ashley.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) When I can't sleep I will try to read myself to sleep...but more often then not I get so involved in the book I stay up even later to finish no matter how tired i am.....

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 95 comments Yeah, the reading myself to sleep thing just never works out. Unless . . . no it just never works out.

LOL...I have even tried re-reading books thinking "well i already know what happens so I won't stay up late"....it still doesn't work

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments Reading to fall asleep wouldn't work for me, I get too into the book and it makes things worse.

See I will only re-read a book I like. So I'd still be into it!!

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Lol, the only time this worked for me was when I tried to study at night. Even with insomnia, the textbook on Industrial Psychology put me to sleep right away!

Lol...totally agree Zee. Textbooks are the way to go when you can't sleep. They can knock me out faster than anything. Specially when I was taking Statistics.

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Lol Jessica! Statistics - I can totally imagine that putting someone to sleep! :)

Livvy (livvya) | 2 comments I am going with the group and saying that there was no way can I use a book to get me asleep. Maybe if someone whacks me in the head with it, knocking me out.

When I'm really tired, a book can push me over the edge, even it's good. My eyes start crossing and next thing I'm sleep.

message 24: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) Yea does that to me too Danielle :) sometimes I think I blink but I've gone to sleep for a few minutes, such a weird feeling ! When I start reading again I have to go back a few pages !

Tell you one thing I hate when reading at night... You have a romantic scene, like first kiss and stuff, and hubby snores... Totally kills the mood !
