Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 6 comments Whoa, baby. I blink and this group grows exponentially! I joined a while ago, but I thought I officially introduce myself. **waves**

• Where are you from?
   California

• What do you like to read?
Love and adore romance, especially Historical Romance and Westerns.
I love a good mystery, too. (especially if you add some romance!).
Actually, I read most anything, but HR is my staple.

• What's your favorite kind of challenge?
I like them all, but especially something with numbers. There was
one based on old T.V. shows that was done in RRRC that was great.
   Can’t resist a Spell-It-Out every month.

• Were you invited here by someone else?
   Yup. By Cherie.

• What other groups do you love here on Goodreads?
   I've joined more than what is below, such as Cozy Mysteries;
however, these are the ones I'm really active in.

message 104: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) **WAVES** To Everyone!!! I see lots of familiar faces, a lot of whom I am friends with, others I have seen you in my groups and have enjoyed doing challenges with ya.

For those who don't know me, I am Robin and I am a book & challenge aholic. I think I have joined the "aholics" group multiple times but have failed to make it to the meetings(I'm too busy doing challenges, reading and adding books) therefore I haven't made it through the 12 step program so they keep kicking me out as there is no help/hope for my book/challenge addictions. ☺ As of the last count I have 8000+ books on my TBR which includes lists on my computer, kindle,GR, and a notebook with lists when I didn't have a computer and had to hand write everything LOLOL As of last count I have a personal library of about 1000 books which are stacked in corners, beside my bed, on every available shelf, and in the closets. I have 5000+ books on my kindle/kindle cloud. I also have books still stashed in boxes/in drawers/on shelves at my mom's too. How many and what is there, I have no clue. I have attempted to try to get everything here on GR but have failed miserably as it is very time consuming and I would rather be doing challenges, chatting with my GR friends, making new friends, and seeing what everyone else is reading so I can make my TBR Mountain bigger while my Read list is just a mole hill.

I just turned 14 (for the 27th time) on Saturday. I moved from TN to the middle of nowhere NE in 2009. I currently am not working due to an injury. I live with my BF and youngest son. I have 2 children, my oldest son is still in TN with my mom & step dad and going to college/working PT. Youngest son is here and looking for work, but I hope he wisens up and goes to college too. I have 2 furbabies (pit bull mixes) which I love dearly ☺ I have an AS (general transfer) and a BS in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I would like to go back to school and get my Master's,maybe in LIS, if not get it in something and then an Associates in LIS. Besides reading, I have other hobbies in all kinds of arts/crafts with the main one being crochet. I also like gardening, swimming, fishing, and playing computer games. I am a huge animal lover but my favorite is dogs.

Where are you from?

I am from WV, moved to TN in elementary school, moved to SC for a couple of years, went back to TN and now I am in NE. I consider TN home ☺

What do you like to read?

At one point in time, I strictly read nothing but Contemporary Romance. I kinda got bored with that and started reading a little fiction. Now I read a little bit of everything: Romance in all subgenres, fiction, non-fiction, YA, a little bit of mystery, paranormal, just about anything that grabs my attention and holds it. I am still not keen on horror/sci-fi (zombies and such) but I am trying to branch out as it makes me a well-rounded person LOL (not that food hasn't already done that for me in more places and ways than one☺)

What's your favorite kind of challenge?

I pretty much like all challenges, with spell-it-outs being my least favorite. I like the ones with tasks invovled such as the scavenger hunts, the sound track challenges, etc etc. I also tend to prefer the yearly challenges or the yearly ones that start the day you sign up. But I also jump right in the monthly, quarterly and seasonal ones too. Some of my challenges I am behind in, some I didn't finish, but I am still working on a lot of them and making great head way. Some I was crazy enough to do twice LOL.

Were you invited here by someone else?

I saw in my notifications where my friends were joining this group but my official invite came from Barb from (CCC). Thanks Barb for thinking of me and sending the invitation!!!!!

What other groups do you love here on Goodreads?

I love NBRC,HEAC,RLftCI,FF(Fiction Fair),Fiction Fanatics, CCC and of course my own persoanl private group where I keep up with all my challenges.

I don't know how many challenges I currently have going but I know it is a lot. I can't resist them, shhhhhhhhhhhhhh Lisa Kay, it's partly your fault I am so addicted and join just about every one I see at some point or the other LOLOLOLOLOL Gotta LOVE LK for the enabler that she is ☺ I know that I will jump in a lot of them here. I look forward to making some new friends so don't hesitate to send me a friend request. I like to make friends with those of you who participate in the challenges and like to talk about books or just life in general. I want to make friends that I can chat with, send recs to, get recs from, and just see around the groups instead of the friend requests from authors who "ONLY" friend me because their book is on my TBR and I never see or hear from them again LOLOL.

Thanks Cherie for this awesome group and I look forward to jumping in with both feet or as LK says "come on in the water is fine." I hope everyone has fun and enjoys their reading!!!!

LOL I seriously doubt that I will ever read them all...because some of these lists date wayyyyyyyyyy back to when I was in Jr High/High School and I will probably never find all those old books.

☺☺☺ It is nice to see you here too LK!!!! **hmph tiff tiff** You know it is. I need more challenges like I need more books and a larger TBR. OHHHH well, lallaallalalallaaa, I am happy and singing and glad to be here to see what kind of trouble I can get into. I am jumping on board the mother ship and throwing out my lifeboats and life jackets because I am going to sink or swim LOLOL

message 109: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 36 comments Hi all! I'm Steph, and I'm also addicted to challenges! I'm from Bloomington, IL, which is pretty much right in the center of the state. I'm 30 and live in an apartment with my two cats who do a great job of keeping me entertained.

What do you like to read? Lately (the past year or two), I've mainly been interested in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genres, but I also like historical romance and horror. I was an English major in college, so I'm a big fan of classic literature too.

What's your favorite kind of challenge? So far, I haven't found a challenge I didn't like, but I seem to gravitate more towards the spell it out kind.

Were you invited here by someone else? No, but I did find out about the group through a post in one of the other groups I belong to. I can't remember which one though. Work apparently fried my brain today. :)

What other groups do you love here on Goodreads? I'm also a member of SOS, CCC, The Lost Challenges, Gotta Have Paranormal Romance with a Kick, and Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy.

Looking forward to joining some challenges here!!

message 124: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I love the idea of this group!! I found it on my updates feed as I'm friends with several people in this group. I'm actually a Lisa Kay stalker fan! I just follow her around.

My name is Leslie - I am 50 years old, married for 28 years to a lovely man. I met him while I was bartending in college. I didn't like him at first, then I saw him one night while I was out and started talking to him(he had the only available bar stool) and never stopped talking. We have 4 children ( I was voted the girl most likely to never have children in HS) ages 23,22,19 and 17. 3 girls and 1 boy. They are of course gorgeous, smart, funny and wonderful. I'm a social worker by education but haven't worked in that field for many years. After being a stay at home mom for over 10 years, I have held several different jobs, though I'm not working now.

Where are you from? I'm from New Orleans, but live in Shreveport, LA due to Hurricane Katrina. We evacuated the day before the storm and never returned. My husband is a computer engineer and the bank he worked for permanently moved his job to Shreveport. We plan to move back in the next year or so. Shreveport is a nice town and I've enjoyed being here, but it's not NO.

What do you like to read? I have loved romance since I was a young girl and wanted Robin Hood and Maid Marian to get together. I require a HEA in my books! I now read most any sub-genre of romance, though less of some. I prefer historical, romantic suspense and paranormal. I've recently discovered steam punk and Urban fantasy and I also love straight mystery/suspense and historical fiction. Do not like horror, distopian literature or "women's fiction".

What's your favorite kind of challenge? I have become a challenge junkie. I am not working at the moment due to some health challenges and some other family events, so I have alot of time to read (too much!!). I love team challenges - but I really like hunting for books to fill the categories. I have a nook and kindle app on my android tablet, so I read everything as an ebook. I'm so OCD, I love the organizing and the search and find of a challenge.

What other groups do you love here on Goodreads? I belong to a bunch of groups on GR, most devoted to challenges. I don't spend alot of time chatting.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Ya'll are welcome!!! There aren't too many of the acronyms that stump me but for some reason every time I see TTFN it takes me a minute to register it LOL. I learned most of them from texting with my children and IMing with my friends/family.

message 139: by Amelia (last edited Aug 18, 2012 08:05PM) (new)

Amelia (narknon) | 71 comments Hi everyone! I'm Amelia. I live in Utah and have for most of my life. I did live in Germany for about 16 months and absolutely love it there too. I've been a reader for as long as I could read. I've gravitated mostly towards fantasy. I do occasionally read other genres. I like historical fiction, science fiction. I do read a lot of YA too. Sarajayne invited me to this group and it looks like fun, so I joined up. I've been camping this last week, so I'm way behind in my other groups: Crazy Challenge Connection is my only other challenge group. The others are mostly science fiction and fantasy groups. I did start a group of my own, hoping to get my family more involved, but it flopped.

I don't know when I'll get back to this group to check the challenges out, but I will be back. I have to catch up on a week's worth of posts, which could take a bit. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you in this group! There are quite a few familiar faces here too!

message 140: by Deyara (new)

Deyara Hi! SaraJayne sent me :)

I'm from New Zealand, and I like to read fantasy, paranormal romance, romantic suspense, crime thrillers, mysteries, science-fiction, non-fiction, biographies and memoirs, contemporary romances (like sports esp hockey players!), and young-adult. That means basically I don't do: westerns, war, spies (okay, sometimes I do...) or poetry. I also dont like weird formatting in books, like unusual fonts that try to look like handwriting, or italics, or lots of incomplete lines, or bits that are upside-down or back-to-front. I've just realised that typing this all out makes me sound a bit nuts! Moving on...

I'm in the same challenge groups as most of the rest of you - Nothing but Reading Challenges; Romance Readers Reading Challenges; SOS: Serious Overload of Series; The Seasonal Reading Challenge; The Challenge Factory; The Lost Challenges; Romance Lovers for the Challenge-Impaired; Challenge Overload (PNR and UF Edition); Who's Your Author?; Crazy Challenge Connection; Dementia - Reading Challenges; My Big Fat Booky Challenge-athon; The Ultimate ABC 123 Challenge; Challenge: 2012 Read Challenge plus I also participate in the little challenges my other groups come up with. I like most kinds of challenges, I tend to like the ones that have lots of categories (find books with x theme, character, setting, item in title or on cover) rather than spell-it-outs.

My participation comes and goes - I sometimes get caught up in the reading and forget about my challenges which is why I need to join this group LOL

Cherie (cheriereads) Welcome Amelia and Deyara! We're happy to have you!

message 142: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Hi all, I´m here through Sarajayne´s invite. ´So I´m Johanna, 27-year-old occupational therapist from Finland. You know, the little spot between Sweden and Russia :)

Basically I read almost anything (non fiction), but most of the books I end up reading seem to be YA at the moment. Also at the moment I am reading a lot of books from self-published/little known authors, I have a book blog with reviews and I also belong to groups where authors can offer their books to be read for reviews. My goal for this year was to read 33 books, I´m at 48 now, my new goal is 66.

My favourite kind of challenge at the moment must be Listopia Challenge, I chose "Best Series" list and am choosing books to read from that.

My favourite groups in GR:

Our Guilty Little Secret http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5..., which is a group for adults who enjoy YA books.
Challenge: 2012 Read Challenge http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5...

message 143: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) Hi Johanna! Welcome to the group!

message 144: by Sheila (last edited Aug 21, 2012 08:21AM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Welcome to the group Johanna. You mentioned the Listopia Challenge. Where is that and what is that? I am always on the prowl for an exciting new challenge.

message 145: by Johanna (new)

Johanna It´s from the group: Challenge: 2012 Reading Challenge. The idea is just to pick a listopia list, decide an amount of books to read and then pick them from that list.

message 146: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Thanks Johanna, I'll check it out.

message 147: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Oh I forgot. I really like Sub-genre challenge from that same group. Like Listopia, the amount of genres and books are up to you. It is a really good way of trying more of something that isn´t what you always read (like for me ya paranormal).

message 148: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) Hi everyone! I know quite a lot of you (and a bunch more have super familiar usernames and avatars), and it's nice to see so many familiar faces here.

I'm one of the mods for the Challenge: 2012 Read Challenge group. We're a low pressure group focused on helping its members meet their 2012 goal for books read (we have members with goals as low as 12 and as high as over 200) by encouraging, providing challenges, and hosting buddy and group reads. We're also the home of the Listopia challenge Johanna mentioned, and you're welcome to join us! It's never too late. (And we'll also be doing it again next year.) http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...

I love Cherie's idea here, and I'm so pleased that our group is one of the partner groups she chose.

Other non-GR facts about me: I'm from Hawaii but currently live in Michigan, I work as a project manager and am concurrently pursuing my MS in Finance, and I love to travel. My favorite types of books are science fiction, business non-fiction, and magical realism.

message 149: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Hi, Kara! I'm joining your group. Sounds like fun.

message 150: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Hey everyone, I'm Lauren and I'm addicted to challenges! I heard about the group in the SOS group and knew I had to join because I'm always encountering challenges that are either over or nearly so.

I'm 36 and lecture in English literature at a local college so books are both my hobby and my profession. I don't have any kids but I do have the naughtiest Jack Russell on the planet.

Where are you from?
I was born in South Africa but now I live in a small town in the North of Israel called Karmiel.

What do you like to read?
I read most genres but my favorites are mysteries and thrillers, romantic suspense, historical romance and paranormal romance.

What kinds of challenges do you like?
I prefer challenges that involve categories that need to be filled.

What other groups do you love here on Goodreads?
Any group that has challenges: Romance Lovers for the Challenge-Impaired, Romance Readers Reading Challenges, SOS: Serious Overload of Series.
