I just want to say hi to other mystery/thriller fans here. My favorite genre is the first-person PI tale and my all-time top series (though not strictly speaking PI stories) is the Travis McGee series. I even have a blog on the subject: http://drmar120.wordpress.com/ But I read a lot of other mysteries, including procedurals, cozies and supernatural thrillers. I especially love sci fi procedurals, such as Kris Rusch's Retrieval Artist series. I've published a few mysteries, as well--including a PI yarn, an historical, and a cozy.

And Travis, who could not love him? Read them all in the 70's and re-read them a couple of years ago. Please read him, you'll be so very glad you did. I promise. He's not a P.I., he calls himself a salvage expert and lives on a boat, The Busted Flush in Ft. Lauderdale. I know him well and he's the reason this is my favorite genre. Need more convincing? Let me know. Good to start from the first book, too.
