Hi, I am a newbie and today I made a newbie mistake. I added a new edition to one of my books and combined it with the existing ones. The book has been fully revised, but by combining both editions I wound up with the title defaulting to the original edition rather than to the new one. As you can imagine this is the last thing I wanted. I tried separating the titles again, but I was told that only a librarian can do that. I have contacted support and I am hoping that the situation can be resolved, but this got me thinking. I think giving the authors the ability to set a specific edition as the default would be a good idea (or at least the ability to undo a 'combine').
Sorry, I know it was my mistake, but I figure it may help someone else.
I realize that, hence the feature suggestion. As an author trying to promote my work, the fact that the site redirects by default to an outdated edition is basically a deal breaker... at least for books with more than one edition.
Okay, thanks for the explanation. I guess that means I have to ask as many people as I can to shelve the new version so that the other one can be knocked out of the default position. That should be easy enough, but it feels dishonest and it probably defeats the purpose of the site. That's why I suggested allowing authors to manually set a default version, which was the purpose of the original post.
It really depends on why you use the site. The purpose of this site for NON authors is to catalog books and write reviews and for those users displaying the newest version of a book is irrelevant they own the old version and don't care there is a new version out and would rather see the version of the book they have shelved in places not the newest version
