Kristi (kristicoleman) So the poll was close, but it looks like we are nominating the next Classic again. Since the poll WAS so close, I will put The Brothers Karamazov in the list, since so many people wanted to read it, so don't nominate that one. Lets see what we can come up with!

Remember:

1) Only one nomination per member

2) Link to both the book and the author in your nomination

3) This thread will be open for 1 week, so get your nominations in before Wednesday morning (U.S. Eastern Time), August 22nd.

4.) If you nominate a book, please be willing to lead the discussions for your book.

Nominations:

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Wings of the Dove by Henry James
Ivanhoe by Walter Scott
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot
Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family by Thomas Mann

Becky I would like to nominate Ivanhoe by Walter Scott

message 4: by Brandon (new)

Brandon I'm glad The Wings of the Dove was nominated! I'll go ahead and nominate The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot.

message 5: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Judy, I've wanted to read Great Expectations for years! I'll have to think about this since I also wanted to keep reading The Brothers Karamazov!

Ellen Librarian (ellenlibrarian) | 172 comments Are nominations still open? The post says they closed on August 15th, but the post is also dated August 15th... so maybe noms are open until 8/22?

If so, I'd like to nominate Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family by Thomas Mann.

Suzanne (thysanura) The other thread is closed, but wanted to catch the poll-voters' attention... :)

We, the Drowned, one of the contemporary nominations, is the Kindle Daily Deal today if you want to snag it for just $1.99. Doesn't look like it's near the top of the polls, but still... more books. Mmm...

And more on-topic: great nominations here! The one I had in mind is only 450 pages, but it looks like it would be hard to go wrong with anything on this list. We're in the process of moving, but hopefully all will be settled so I can participate on at least one of these reads. Yay Chunksters!

Tasha Awesome, thanks!

Yep, I meant 8/22...that's what I get for copy/pasting from the contemporary noms thread...lol. Thanks for catching that.

Rosemary Great nominations! It's going to be a difficult voting decision!

Candiss (tantara) I came to this thread with a nomination in mind, but when I saw Great Expectations listed, I decided to just leave my suggestion for the next nomination go-around. I intend to read Great Expectations between now and December anyhow to fulfill a challenge I am participating in, and it would be lovely to have both company and encouragement. So I'll just hush now and wait for the poll to open. :)

(This is a very nice list of nominees all around.)
