Agreed!

message 103: by Chuck (new)

Chuck Holland Some repeats, but I really liked the Fablehaven Series. and the author, Brandon Mull, came out with a trilogy called "The Beyonders" It is very good as well. I REALLY LIKED a book called "The Emerald Atlas". It was the first part of a trilogy and I haven't read any of the others, but I would imagine they are excellent. Also "100 Cupboards" is excellent, and the author's use of words is exceptional. VERY WELL WRITTEN!!

John Naureen wrote: "The Shannara books by Terry Brooks"

terry brooks is a splendid storyteller, though some of his mainstream fantasy material may not appeal to most new readers...look into the ones with magic but more of a human element as well (the word/void series for example)

message 105: by Jessie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jessie George MacDonal's fairy tales and fantasy stories are awesome, even if you're not a child. His other books are good, too, but not like Narnia.

Lloyd Alexander has some excellent books. I especially enjoyed The Arkadians.

Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quartet is very good. Some of her other books aren't as good.

I would also recommend J. R. R. Tolkien, specifically The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and Ursula K Le Guin, especially The Wizard of Earthsea.

Holes. Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

There are probably more that I can't remember right now.

message 106: by Alvin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alvin Anything by Maria V. Snyder, I'd recommend starting with Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Hot Chocolate Confessions Highly recommend Eragon by Christopher Paolini, The False Prince and Ranger's Apprentice. Loved all of them.

message 108: by Lisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lisa There's a great fantasy/adventure series like Narnia and LOTR called The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson. He's released three books previously and the fourth is due next spring. SO good for this genre.

message 110: by Lucas (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lucas Kitchen It may have been said, but I love book 1 and 2 of CS Lewis' Space Trilogy. Out of the Silent Planet, and Parelandra.

message 111: by Mila (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mila Fitos if you liked the way lewis wrote, you should read more c.s. lewis books like The four loves, The great divorce, Til we have faces, Perelandra, because all of his books are great. But Tolkiens books are also really similar to Narnia.

Elentarri Everything Patricia McKillip writes is good.

message 113: by Ryan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ryan Archer People who enjoy Narnia would enjoy The Curse of the Rodain. It's the 1st book of the Rodain Trilogy. Book Two, The Rebellion of the Rodain, is coming Spring 2014, with Book Three, The Resurrection of the Rodain, coming shortly thereafter.

Charbel Tadros I always recommend the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. You could also check out my books at www.charbeltadros.com

message 115: by Marc (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marc Berube The Lord of the Rings is a good series, but it's a little harder to understand than The Chronicles of Narnia. Since The Chronicles of Narnia is originally a children's series.

message 116: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna Fantastic list here! I'll have to mine it for new favorites! I'd add Madeleine L'Engle's Wrinkle in Time series. Also most anything by Robin McKinley, but especially Outlaws of Sherwood and The Blue Sword. Also Sherwood Ring and Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope.
