Ranajeet | 3 comments In HP and THBP, during the tryouts for the Keeper spot in the Gryffindor Quidditch team, Hermione admits she Confounded Cormac McLaggen so that Ron could qualify. The apparent justification for this is she likes Ron and McLaggen is annoying. Now, the message in the HP series is honesty, hard work etc etc are more important than riches, power blah blah. So the spot for the Keeper should have gone to the best player. But Rowling here implies that if its Hermione/Harry who cheat then its justified; even cool. Just because you like someone doesn't mean you can cheat someone else out of a perfectly deserved spot. McLaggen may be annoying but that doesn't reduce his legitimate claim to the Keeper spot.
What do y'all say?

THBP = The Half-Blood Prince. HBP is often used as an abbreviation for the sixth book.

Ciara | 109 comments The difference is that Malfoy, for instance, used jinxes to get what he wanted. He used and manipulated people for his own good.
Hermione, on the other hand, jinxed Cormac out of her love for Ron, and he deserved it, right?

I'm not saying that what she did was right, but Cormac was a horrible person and Hermione did it for Ron.

I think that Hermione getting Ron to be keeper was showing that she was loosening up a little, and not being so perfect all the time.

Pamela (waterspout) | 27 comments Besides, if Ron was a horrible player, then just kick him out right?

Claire Martin (miss_martin) | 3 comments I think JK often showed that we are all human and not perfect. I mean look at James, and the fact he was really a bully. But still loved by many, and seen as a bit of a legend.

Bianca Acosta | 6 comments exactly shes not saying its justified. i think shes just showing that no one is perfect; we all do things we shouldnt.

Olanrewaju (grandmasterace) | 10 comments and Ron is actually a great keeper and with cormac's "i too know" and trying to sort of take over the whole team "which cost them the second match" i am happy Hermione jinxed cormac

Tejashree | 31 comments We know what happened in the match when Cormac played the seeker...
It was for for the good of the team. (At least it turned out that way)

LeOta (berrylota) I liked that Hermione stopped being little miss perfect for once and behaved like a teenager.
