Harpal Khalsa Yet another congratulations. Great book as well, I'm glad they got back to picking books that are actually good. I'm not sure what was up with Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Oh well.
I'm REALLY REALLY excited for the Coraline movie as well. Definitely seeing it in 3D on IMAX. Also may I note that I have gone through more copies of Coraline than any other book? I keep buying it, loaning it to people and then never seeing it again. Now I have a hard cover copy though, I'm not letting that one out of my sight.

Lilly Congratulations on the Newbery -- and just to let you know, the Graveyard Book is so popular that even the huge bookstores (i.e. the Barnes and Noble's I visited out of desperation last night) are completely sold out. Well done there.

Jessica Congratulations, Neil! Of course, now it'll be impossible for me to EVER get the Graveyard Book out of the hands of eager children at the library and it'll languish on my to-read list ... couldn't you be a little LESS good? ;)

Matt Thank you for adding me as a friend!

message 109: by Becca (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Becca I loved the gaps and empty spaces in The Graveyard Book. I loved that we just saw a teensy glimpse of that world. I'm sure you would do lovely things with a sequel, but I would be a little sad to have those tantalizing blanks filled in.

message 108: by Vivian (last edited Jan 04, 2009 11:02PM)

Vivian I was searching online for the Coraline Mystery Boxes and I came across this on Ebay. I guess it was just a matter of time before pieces from the Coraline Boxes showed up on Ebay. Do you think it's a fake? (The seller says it's from box #31.)

Update

I emailed eBay's Loss and Prevention Department, telling them that I suspected that the doll was a fake.

They sent me an email stating that the item was removed from the auction.

Thanks!

Alisa Kester One of your biggest fans, author Patrick Rothfuss just joined Goodreads:

It'd be cool if you sent him a friend request! :)

I loved The Graveyard Book, btw - it might even bump American Gods as my new favorite.

message 102: by Polluxa (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Polluxa Thanks for adding me~ You must've heard this a million times before, but I'm going to say it anyway : You're awesome! Coraline is a gem, while Sandman is a legend, and Good Omens is my bible. I have a newly bought copy of American Gods in my hands right now and I'm excited to see where it'll take me. The Graveyard Book is next in line~

message 101: by James

James Thanks Neil, love your work. Can't wait for the next one!!

message 99: by Natasha (last edited Dec 04, 2008 11:10PM)

Natasha Thanks for adding me! Neverwhere was the first book I read by you, and I was immediately hooked. I live in London, so every time I'm on the tube (which is pretty much every day), I think about the world you created living underneath the tracks. It makes commuting a whole lot more interesting! MirrorMask is also one of my favorite films, the whole thing feels like a dream.

message 98: by Bill (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Bill Glover Thank you for adding me as a friend. I've read and very much enjoyed Coraline, American Gods, Neverwhere, Smoke and Mirrors, Fragile Things, Good Omens, Stardust and just found an autographed copy of the Graveyard Book at Foyle's on a recent trip to London which I plan to enjoy on a long flight to Texas tomorrow.

I think Neverwhere is my favorite of your books so far. I have a daughter who's turned 18 today, so I understood how it felt to walk Anaesthesia across Knightsbridge, and I know how lucky I am for every day we make it further across.

message 97: by Jeb

Jeb Thanks for accepting the invite! Quite prompt. I have been hearing your name for a few years but finally picked up a book (Fragile Things) and am digging it. I have no idea what's going to be around each corner. The door looks familiar, but the interior is a different story.

Granted, this is my first introduction to your work, but I'm getting the same vibe as I did reading The October Country when I was younger.

Very good work. It takes something to stir a mind that thought all magic was lost, and that there was nothing but scraps of ash and crumpled papers in a dead end.

message 96: by Ceci (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Ceci Neil, I would love to read more about Bod, but reading the big back story might be even more amazing, if possible! It would be so wonderful to read how the Honour Guard started out and how Silas became what he is.

I bought American Gods and Anansi Boys as early Christmas presents for myself. So will be reading those soon...

Anyhow, The Price is one of my all time favorites amongst your short stories, not only because it features a black cat, but that is certainly one of the greatest reasons. Another is your purrfect prose. I am owned by three magical kitties and they do protect me against many dangers. Hope there will be more stories featuring cats soon!

Speaking of which, this is such a wonderful quote from The Graveyard Book:

""Name the different kinds of people," said Miss Lupescu. "Now."
Bod thought for a moment. "The living," he said. "Er. The dead." He stopped. Then, "...Cats?" he offered, uncertainly."

Hope you're having a wonderful day, Neil.

message 95: by Katy

Katy I just finished American Gods and I loved it. I'll be honest, I didn't initially, but after about 100 pages it was like magic: I couldn't put it down. The writing is phenomenal. Even when you're talking about something completely obscure that I'll probably never encounter again, the story just flows on like a steady river, taking me along on a smooth but exciting ride. Loved the great twists as well. Hopefully another book like it is somewhere on the horizon? Not necessarily a sequel, just another book with more gods.

message 94: by Robert

Robert I, for one, would like to see more of Bod...

message 93: by Jess

Jess I actually like that Bod's story ends where it does-- the novel's very powerful standing alone. That said, I'd very happily follow Bod wherever you chose to take him.

message 92: by Sara (last edited Nov 18, 2008 02:24PM)

Sara I didn't comment just in case it was bothering, but after reading your last comment, I wanted to both thank you for your ad (not pretty original, I'm afraid), and saying there is a way to add books manually. So you don't need to wait if you don't want to... but maybe it's easier to wait, just so you know: http://www.goodreads.com/book/new

message 91: by Neil (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Neil The biggest problem -- and it's not really a problem -- that I'm having with Goodreads -- is that a lot of the books I read are so far ahead of publication that there's no listing for them. I suppose I have to try and remember to recheck around the time they come out.

I'm so glad people are enjoying The Graveyard Book.

I'm not sure about sequels. Part of me would love to follow Bod around for the next decade. Part of me would prefer to tell the big back story, of which the Graveyard Book is just a little ofshoot. And most of me knows I need to write a couple of scripts, a couple of short stories, and get underway on the China Book before I can even think about things like that...

message 90: by Calvin

Calvin I read Anansi boys about year ago, I was surprised, your words are flowing flawlessly like magic, each pages like contain charm, I cant put it back before I finished it. :)

message 89: by Ceci (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)

Ceci Neil, I finished The Graveyard Book a few nights ago and it's simply amazing. Loved it! Thank you so much for creating that wonderful world with those very lively characters. Will there be a sequel? Please? I can't wait to find out what happened to Bod, and whether Silas ever needed his help...

Also, I heard there will be a movie! Such happy news! I also love to watch and listen to the video tour with you reading the book over at the Mouse Circus site. Oh the magical world of many media! :)

Hope you have a fantastic week, Neil, and thank you again.

message 87: by Ceci

Ceci And The Man Who Was Thursday is one of my all time favorites, too... I basically grew up reading G.K. Chesterton, first Father Brown and later the other works. Chesterton's a true classic, just like you.

message 86: by Ceci (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:41AM)
