Thanks so much, Katie. Actually, it depends on what I'm in the mood for. I love the scope and grandeur of historicals - the different rules, the great clothes, the history. But I also love romantic suspense, with sex and violence and rock and roll . If I were smart about career planning I'd have stuck to one, but by the time I'm finished with a historical I'm usually ready for a contemporary world, and vice versa.

Probably Killian in Ice Storm, or maybe Finn in On Thin Ice. Or Bastien. Or the hero in Ruthless. Or .... I guess I love my heroes.

I give myself time off. It's usually because I'm depressed about something else. If it doesn't come together after a while I'll tear the book apart to see if I went wrong (which I quite often do). Once I fix it I can move on.

I think it's always the same. Read. And write. Read what you love, read some stuff that's not necessarily in your genre (and if you don't love that, don'e waste your time with it) and write, write, write. Other people's writing will teach you how to write. Do Not go to college to learn to write - your voice can get smashed too easily.

I daydream, I listen to the current soundtrack for the book, I put stuff up on Pinterest that inspires me, but most of all I know that I want to read the story then I have to write it, and that gets me to the computer (or the blank notebook if I'm writing longhand).
