Catherine Berry Hi Chandi, I saw your comment in an 'introduce yourself' thread, for memoir authors (I think!). Your comment rang true for me, having had those same desires to go, to do, to not stay in the one place...For me, it was with my family and France was my obvious choice as I have been fascinated with the French language for a very long time now (I am a French teacher). When I wrote my book, I had no idea that there were so many of us writing, blogging, photographing our new lives. It can make you feel very inconsequential. My book is on Amazon and available in the Createspace store, but I didn't start there. I began by producing a print version through Blurb. The quality is very good and the shipping very quick, but I know that this is not for everyone. Feel free to email me on [email protected] to continue this conversation.
Catherine Berry I would never have considered myself a writer before living in France. Initially, my jottings were to preserve the precious memories of our experience living in a different way and out of our comfort zone. In a rather clichéd manner, a life-challenging event paved the way for me to write. It was good for me, and, if you read the book, I hope it will be good for you.
Catherine Berry The idea, when it came, was not initially to write a book. Rather, to uproot the family and tread the well-worn path of the Australian living in France. As a French teacher, it was important to me that my children experience the world differently, including having access to another language. After several years of planning, we were in a position to be able to make good our idea. The book came naturally after that.
