That's an odd question. A mystery in my own life? I suppose the biggest mystery in my life would be why I became a writer instead of something more useful to society. I'm joking, of course. Writers are useful, even critical, for society. Who else would safeguard history, document the human condition, or inspire the youth through vision? I believe the biggest mystery in anyone's life would have to be: What made you who you are?

Probably, or improbably, Nick and Nora Charles. Few people today know who they are, but they were the pattern on which detective duos were designed for decades. Although the detective series soon became "buddy stories," it was Nick and Nora Charles who patterned couples in film and novel in the 1940s and 1950s.

My father spent some time there working for the FAA. We were living in Florida at the time and he was on TDY.

I usually work on several projects at once. This allows me to move to another project if I run into a block on one. Normally the other project lets me go on writing with fresh eyes and unlocks the muse when I return to the first.

For me, writing is therapy. It allows me to express myself and vent my frustrations, fix my internal problems, and get the satisfaction of knowing I have turned what destructive issues might be in my life into something creative.

Write. Write when you don't want to write. Write when you feel like you can't write. It's better to write a few words than let the well go completely dry.

I am the kind of writer who either writes out of compulsion or inspiration, more the former than the latter. Inspiration normally comes from observing people or current events and wondering about the motives that drive both.

"Doom Angel", the third volume in the Angelkiller Triad, was the finale to which the other two books had been building. It developed from the plots of "Angelkiller" and "Traitor Angel".
