Melanie Dickerson Hi, Gail! That is very sweet of your to tell me. I'm so glad to hear it.
Yes, I get Cecil Murphey's newsletter! He actually provided a scholarship that helped me go to the ACFW writers conference when I was still trying to get published! I met with my future editor at Zondervan at that conference! And I recognize your name as well as his assistant. God bless Cecil Murphey and God bless you. :-)
Melanie Dickerson Hi! My advice is to learn everything you can about writing, how to write a novel, how to edit, about publishing, etc. Self edit as much as you can and then get other trusted people to give you editing help or advice.
Also, be wary of "vanity publishers," companies who charge large amounts of money to publish your book, promising you a professional cover and editing services and promising to get you into book stores. They don't deliver on their promises, and you can hire professionals yourself to do these services--great cover and professional editing--for a fraction of the cost and get much better results.
Also, join writers groups like ACFW and local groups.
Most importantly, learn, learn, learn. I have a list of great websites and books. Go to my website, melaniedickerson.com, and click on the For Writers tab.
Hope this helps!

Melanie Dickerson Hi, Laney! Yes, I have already started Book 1 in the new series. The book is tentatively titled Court of Swans, set in England in the court of King Richard II in the late 1300's. It's a Wild Swans retelling. I hope you like it!
Melanie Dickerson Hi, Camille! I don't have any plans to stop writing medieval fairy tale retellings! I'm starting a new series set mostly or partially in England. The first book is a Wild Swans retelling, tentatively titled Court of Swans, set in the court of King Richard II. I hope you like it!
Melanie Dickerson I write in third person. I write from the hero and the heroine's points of view, alternately. Sometimes I also write in another character's point of view, like when I wrote a couple of scenes from the brother Steffan's point of view in The Warrior Maiden, and sometimes I write from the villain's point of view. But usually just the hero and heroine's.
Melanie Dickerson Mia, it is a reverse Cinderella story, of sorts. Very, very loosely based on Cinderella, but the hero is the Cinderella character.
Melanie Dickerson I have thought about it, but it seems like it would be tough to do, especially since my stories are set a few hundred years earlier than when the Anastasia story takes place.
Melanie Dickerson The 11th and final Hagenheim book releases June 10th. I'd love for them to be made into movies. Do you know any movie producers?
Melanie Dickerson I chose Gisela because my story is set in Medieval Germany and that was a name that was used in Medieval Germany. I try to make sure I use period appropriate names.
Melanie Dickerson Thank you! I am finishing up The Peasant's Dream, the 11th and final book in the Hagenheim series. It is Adela's story and releases June 10th. After that I'm starting a new fairy tale series. The first two books are set in England and the first book is a Wild Swans retelling.
