Kate Moretti Hi Cintia! This is a very belated answer but I think I can safely say we all feel like this every day. It sounds like you're a writer! The industry can kill creativity. Reviews and critics can kill your confidence, which kills creativity. Rejection can decimate your sense of worth, which kills creativity. I wish I had magic words or a wand to make this all go away but I don't. For me, it works to keep in mind "the writing is the thing". It's a notecard I have pinned above my desk. A daily reminder to block out the noise and all the things that don't matter and write the story I want to read, every single (writing) day. To focus on my craft and doing something I love to do. It's possible the noise is preventing you from pursuing ideas. Try yoga. Try meditation. Read books that get your creative juices flowing. Read authors you admire. There are many ways to beat back this beast, we all have different ways of dealing with it. You have to find yours and it's the hardest part of this job, I promise you! PS. Lose the "aspiring". If you write, you're a writer. xo
Kate Moretti Indirectly, yes. Henry came out of thin air and then when I realized the subconscious parallels, I highlighted them. There's a sly reference to it when Lydia calls him 'Enry 'Iggins. Thanks for asking :)
Kate Moretti I love the psychological suspense genre and always have. Rebecca is among my favorites, Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, Before I Go To Sleep, A Simple Plan. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (not psych suspense but one of my favorite books). I also read a ton of upmarket fiction (The Help, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Water for Elephants). This question is always a tough one!
Kate Moretti Depends on the block! Mostly I just write a bunch of junk, over and over again, every day (or every-ish day) until something clicks. Last year I had it for months on end and wrote a large section of my next book that I ended up completely trashing. Eventually, it clicked. I wrote my way out of it. It was awful, but doing nothing would have paralyzed me, I think.
Kate Moretti I do! I can connect with readers AND writers (I'm a fangirl first!), and keep track of the books I'm reading, want to read and have read. I love it!
Kate Moretti My favorite part of writing is the beginning. Before I actually start writing. Brainstorming plot, fleshing out characters, journaling ideas. Most of this is discarded or not used or changed drastically during the writing process, but this stage is just so much fun. Anything is possible. At about ten thousand words, things get real and the hard work starts. That's my least favorite part.
Kate Moretti I sure hope so. I live in a 150 year old farmouse and I've yet to find it. I'm sure it's around here somewhere. :)

Kate Moretti Hi Veronica! I'm sorry I'm just seeing this now, I don't know why! I did write a spin-off novella from THOUGHT I KNEW YOU. It's called WHILE YOU WERE GONE and it's the story of Karen and Greg from Karen's point of view. You don't get quite into Greg's head, but you do get a glimpse of why he did what he did. It's very short, only 150 pages and available wherever ebooks are sold (Amazon, B&N, etc). If you read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you so much for getting in touch!

Kate Moretti The possibilities are ENDLESS! Hide out? :)
