Deb E. Howell Gosh, well, as I live in the Southern Hemisphere, summer is a loooong way off for me! But for winter, I'll be continuing on with Ben Galley's Heart of Stone, and then I am really (*really*) looking forward to Sonya Lano's The Ever Spirits... that'll be next.
Deb E. Howell I think I would have to say Jamie and Claire in the Outlander series. At this time, I just can't think of another couple I adore quite so much. Although, if we step outside of books for a moment, I totally root for Felicity and Oli... Why couldn't Arrow explore a healthy relationship working together? That being said, I like that they are adult enough to work together after splitting up.
But, yeah, Claire and Jamie. They're passionate about each other, but it's not all passion all the time... they DO stuff as a couple. The romance is central, but it's not ALL.
Deb E. Howell Well, I've still only got the one out in the public domain, and the next two follow on from that... so that's the "idea" I will go into here.
I guess the central idea of Healer's Touch would have to be the Aenuk power -- the shifting of life from one place to another. And, well, in it's latest form (in the Aenuk Chronicles), I ripped it off from my teenage self. And I can't pinpoint where I got that idea from back then (not to say it would have been entirely original -- what is?). Back in the day, I would have been enjoying a lot of super hero fiction: Gargoyles, The Crow, Batman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer... So, no doubt it was a melding of all those.
Deb E. Howell Well, it's a habit I formed pretty rapidly back in 2009 and since then I just haven't let myself break it.
If inspiration is lacking then I will spend some time writing about what is bothering me, or reading something like New Scientist, or some controversial topic online...
Deb E. Howell I am working on Book 3 or The Aenuk Chronicles, which I'm currently titling "Magician's Touch".
Deb E. Howell To write.
And to seriously consider giving handwriting a go. In this day and age of keyboards and touch screens, it's easy to type everything. But I think there is something different about the way handwriting taps into the mind... pen and paper, or stylus and tablet, I think it's worth it to dig a bit deeper.
Deb E. Howell Well, the best feeling comes when someone spends hours in your book and it's not wasted time -- they're successfully entertained. That feels great.
The best thing would probably be the rush you get when inspiration strikes. It can be elusive, but when it comes it's awesome.
Deb E. Howell For me, the best way to deal with Writer's Block is to... write.
I may be struggling with a particular project, but that doesn't mean I can't write notes to myself about other things, or even about the project itself. Often, I just need to write myself through whatever problem I'm dealing with... with pen and paper.
