Hi, Breezy, thank you for your interest. I worked for Bellsouth/AT&T on business telephone circuits (carrier lines, video, internet - they were just getting into fiberoptics when I retired). I did in-office wiring, plugged in the correct circuit pack and also did the testing involved to make sure everything worked properly. I did troubleshooting when something didn't work or was broken. This involved finding exactly where the problem was (if it was on the company's end or the customer's- sometimes having to go to the customer's premise) determining when a circuit pack was defective and procuring another one (or sometimes fixing it if another one wasn't available) and testing with the customer and/or outside installer. I worked with all sorts of equipment and it was interesting, but I was happy to retire! :-)

The cops’ tracking dogs had cornered the man they knew to have committed the horrendous double murder where he was hiding in an old boxcar on a side rail, but when he didn’t come out at their shouted commands, guns drawn, they went in, where they found his torn off face, some ragged pieces of flesh and bone chips, and a tremendous amount of blood. Wondering what had happened to him, they scanned around but soon left the remains to be assessed by the crime scene investigators, not seeing the vague outline of the dark-scaled, many-eyed being with rows of bloodstained teeth, crouching in the strange inky shadows at the far end of the boxcar licking its clawed hands clean.

Hi, Gwyn, I'm somewhere in between though I have to say I'm mostly a panster. I'll have a beginning and since I always know how my tale will end, I'll just work on it until I get there. Sometimes I'll do an outline but it's usually a loose one though I admit that I once outlined every chapter for one of my books. But only once.
And, you're welcome. Thank you for asking.

Hmm...never been asked that before. Thinking about it, though, I have more than one, and they're my favorites because I made them up. For instance: Cady and Sam, the werewolf couple from my Cady and Sam series; or Juri Turner and Tetharia Sonicdragon from my Spaceships and Magic series. I have others but some are not couples as such (Randa, Ostrich, and Thol, from "Bridge") or are not human (Swallow and Dove from the novella of the same name) or are mixed (Raven and C'elie).

If it means not being able to write anything, I don't think I've ever had writer's block. Occasionally, I've found myself temporarily unable to take a story where I want it to go. When that happens, I lay it aside and start another story. Eventually, the way to advance on the original manuscript comes to me and I find I can move on to the next part. Probably why I always have more than one story going at a time.
If that method doesn't work (and sometimes it doesn't) I simply keep writing until I come up with what is needed (I once did nearly a hundred thousand words this way, part of which became another book when none of it was what I needed for my current work!).

Read a lot in the genre in which you want to write and then write a lot. In fact, you should write everyday. Oh, and watch out for relatives who love you but have never read anything you've written. Or even if they have. They will lie to you.

I am working on another story in the "Cady and Sam" (werewolves) series; I'm writing a short story in the "Boucher's World" series; I also have started a sequel to my soon to be released book "Turner: Bitter Change", and two other untitled stories that have nothing to do with either of my series.

I've been inspired by dreams, by the people in my life, by events past and present, even by chance remarks, sometimes it's something trivial. I've also been inspired by pictures and by memories, I suppose I can be inspired by just about anything, and I've found that a part of me goes into all my stories. It may be a very small, obscure part but still it's there.

The idea for my latest book (Turner: Bitter Change due out 11/18/14) came about from something remembered from my childhood.
