Roxanne Bland The last person on Earth sat in a chair in the foyer of an abandoned house. There was a knock on the door...
Roxanne Bland Ooo...what an unfair question! There are so many worlds I'd like to visit. But I think I'd like to go to Luna in Robert Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I'd assist, in some way, in the rebellion against Earth. Maybe be a bootlegger and supply the rebels. Or somehow become an instant technician and help Manny keep Adam Selene running.
Roxanne Bland I had to think about this one--my life's pretty pedestrian. You know, work the day job, come home and write, work the day job, come home and write, and so on. All the good stuff happens in my head.

I did have one weird occurrence, once, though I'm not sure you'd call it a mystery. Late for an event, I was driving to Annapolis MD from Washington, DC. I really wanted to get there on time, so I floored the accelerator. One of the things I noticed was that there was no traffic, which was very odd, given the population of the area. So anyway, I arrive at the venue where the event is being held, look at my dash clock and am stunned to see that only 10 minutes had passed from my leaving DC and arriving in Annapolis. I ask the parking valet what time it is, and his watch agreed with my dash clock. The reason this is so strange is because Annapolis is 40 miles from DC. Even driving twice the speed limit, I would not have made it in 10 minutes. How did I do it? I don't know.

It did give me a story idea, though. What if I'd stumbled into a time travel experiment conducted by a mad billionaire or the U.S. Department of Defense? And now, since I was the only person to live through the experiment, they're after me. If I'm caught, once my usefulness to them is over, they're going to kill me to keep me from talking. So I have to stay one step ahead of them...

Roxanne Bland Unfortunately, I won't be, as my schedule will not allow it.
Roxanne Bland Nick and Nora Charles of the Thin Man series, I think. The sophisticated banter between the two is just marvelous. Nora gives as good as she gets. And Nick, the detective who suddenly, through marriage, finds himself in the world of socialites gives us the view of the foibles of this class of society through the eyes of an outsider. Hilarious stuff.
Roxanne Bland It stemmed from a game a college friend and I played. We concocted a story, and the characters we made up have stuck with me. Years and years later, I read The Earth Chronicles by Zecharia Sitchin. Whether you believe ancient astronauts came to Earth and created humans or not, it's a great tale. Well, many more years passed, while the idea incubated, I guess. Finally, like Athena from Zeus's head, this story came to me almost full-blown. And the result was THE MOREVA OF ASTORETH, which you really should go out and buy...
Roxanne Bland A lot of things. A beautiful day (though I try not to spend it in front of the computer) a rainy day (which I do spend in front of the computer) music, reading, my daydreams, my night dreams...whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.
Roxanne Bland A story about a vampire, a werewolf and a mage whose paranormal powers are lost/mixed up because of a magick spell, and now they have to get those powers back before each of them finds themselves in danger of death.
Roxanne Bland Write and write some more. Don't worry if it's crap, nobody has to see it. When you're ready (and you'll know when you are) write that first draft. It'll be crap, too, but that's what editing and editors are for.
Roxanne Bland Being able to daydream and not get into trouble for it.
Roxanne Bland I don't worry about it. For me, that just makes it worse. I just go on about my life, doing the things I'm supposed to do, and then, one day, I find myself writing again.
