I am a walking, talking Rorschach test. How you react to me defines who you are, not me.

Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina" I'd make sure I was there, at the tracks, telling her to snap out of it, to sell her jewels, and fly be free, to start her life over in Paris. Basically, I'd rewrite most classics, creating endings that empowered, rather than punished strong women.

Love that. The first book (at least the first I read) to empower a woman in the end is Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House." Late 1800's. It was rather scandalous and unheard of at the time for a woman (Norma) to walk away from being treated as a proverbial doll, rather than an equal in her marriage. Tolstoy also used un-empowering colloquialisms for Anna. It was common in Russia to use childlike nicknames for female adult characters.

Patriarchy is a powerful thing. It hurt all the characters in that play. Ibsen was a master writer.

I've been binge-ing on Julie Garwood's Highland books, and now I'm working on her Contemp RS. When I'm done with her, I'll probably move on to Eloisa James, and catch up with the new releases of my other "go to" writers (listed on my GRs favorite writers!)

When I was seven I had three consecutive concussions spread out over the year. They were all accidents, and I remember them clearly, but I could spank that into a plot with little effort, lol.

Claire and Jamie from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I love the locale, the culture, the time periods used. It allows me to go back in time with a heroine who is armed with educated, and intelligence in a world where only strength and maleness matters, and it's enough. And they LOVE each other realistically. They see their flaws, allow for them, and love each other anyway. https://www.goodreads.com/series/4394...

Because it's a sequel, it grew from the first book's plot. I lay in bed at night, and think about my books, and just as I'm about to fall asleep, the perfect plot hits me. I get up, write it down, and a month later, I'm doing edits on it.

I wake up. I think, "Oh, I get to write AGAIN. Aren't I the luckiest person in the world?" Grab some food, turn on the computer and boom. I'm writing. Every day. My life is amazing.

A sequel. My first sequel. And the heroine is my most "normal" that I've ever written. I'm finding it a challenge. "Normal" really isn't my thing.

Don't give up. You'll want to. You'll be made to. But get back to it as soon as you can. It's moot advice, really, because if you are a "writer", you won't be able to help yourself. If you can, obsess on something that pays better.

When you read your latest project and it is exactly as you want it, or when you read the finished project and you're happy that you still love it. It's an indescribable feeling.

I don't get writer's block. People don't like to hear that, but it's true. It's not my issue.
