Three Threes: The Return

So after we started this year’s fundraiser, something kinda odd happened.

We got a few e-mails and comments that we weren’t expecting. Stuff like this:

“Last year I happened to donate after the $0.33 sub-lottery was announced. That has primed me to delay my donation this year until late into the fundraiser, to ensure I don’t unintentionally disqualify myself from any surprises.”

This is calling back to last year, where we threw in a special lottery for folks who donated and included .33 at the e...

Signed Books from Lovely Authors

We just finished our first week of Worldbuilders, and as I type this we’ve raised about $110,000. That’s money that will help improve the lives of people all over the world for years and years.

But Pat!” I hear you cry. “Exactly *how* will this money make people’s lives better? For someone willing to spend entire chapters describing a completely fictional alternate physics in your books, it seems like you’re being pretty vague here….

Fair enough.

Let’s say you donate $60, that’s enough for Hei...

Novelties: Scalzi, Leckie, and Beagle

We’re wrapping up the first week of our Worldbuilders fundraiser and as I type this we’ve raised over $107,000 dollars. Which means we’ve unlocked several stretch goals, and are on the cusp of several more…

While Novelties blogs are separate from our yearly fundraiser, the money goes to the same charity. What’s more, since this month’s Novelties is landing *inside* our yearly fundraiser, any of the books you buy here will count toward our donation total, helping us hit more stretch goals faste...

Professional Manuscript Critiques

As I write this, Worldbuilders has raised more than $92,000 for Heifer International.

So here’s a video. I could claim I’m posting it because it explains what we’re doing here at Worldbuilders, but that would be a lie. I’m posting it because my kids are in it, and my kids are seriously adorable.

So there you go. That’s what we’re doing. You can donate directly to Heifer International on the Worldbuilders team page, making the world a better place while (hopefully) winning fabulous prizes.

Or you...

Beautiful Jewelry from Badali

Well folks, we’ve just finished our third full day of Worldbuilders, and we’ve already raised over $75,000. I feel pretty good about that.

That means we’ve already unlocked our first two stretch goals.

Notorious wordmongerNika Harper reads her own Dinosaur Limericks.
Troubadour extraordinaire Molly Lewis performs her Pumpkin Spice Latte Song.

You should really check them out, then share them around with the rest of the world. Your friends on social media will thank you for it.

The Traditional Pat Rothfuss Donation Blog

Back when I started doing Worldbuilders, the only items in our lottery came from me.

That changed pretty fast, of course. Authors started to jump in with offers of help almost immediately. That’s what made me think I could turn it into something more than just me goofing off on my blog.

Now, six years later, Worldbuilders has grown to be bigger than just me, but I still like to do my part.

Most of the items I’m donating are going into the lottery, where anyone can win them if they donate at leas...

Games from Cheapass Games

Over the last year, we’ve been developing a great relationship with Cheapass Games. They donated games to last year’s fundraiser. And many of you jumped into the Pairs Kickstarter we ran earlier this year.

Today, here they are again, stomping out and donating a bunch of cool games.

We’re putting all these games in the lottery, because we here at Worldbuilders have the firm belief that anyone can love a Cheapass Games game, even if you’re not generally into boardgames (or much of a cheapass). Ma...

Glorious Books from Subterranean Press

There are some traditions I really believe in, and one of them is starting the Worldbuilders fundraiser off properly, featuring the beautiful books from our oldest sponsor Subterranean Press.

They’ve been with us from the beginning, but even better, Subterranean Press produces some of the most lovely, gorgeous, high-quality books in the business. What’s more, they’re always extraordinarily generous with them.

You can tell because there aretwenty copies of each of these books in the lottery, as...

Worldbuilders 2014

It’s that time of year again, folks. Time to make the world a better place while winning fabulous prizes.

Heifer Internationalis my favorite charity. It helps people raise themselves out of poverty and starvation. For more than 60 years, Heifer has promoted education, sustainable agriculture, and local industry all over the world.

They don’t just keep kids from starving, they make it so people can take care of themselves. They give families goats, chickens, and sheep to families so their childr...

Slow Regard of Silent Things: Recapping the Tour

When I started my book our for Slow Regard, I had high hopes of writing a few blogs while I was on the road.

Nothing big. Just little posts where I would mention some of the fun things that happened on each particular night. Maybe post a picture or two. Maybe if I was really ambitious, I’d put a cap on some of the blogs I had mostly done.

But no. Eventually, I will learn the truth: I cannot write a blog when I’m touring.

So here’s some highlights:

Pre-Tour:

Believe it or not, my signing tour actua...
