The Best Laid Plans….

Greetings true believers!

Ech. I remember back in the beforetimes. I remember the long long ago when I refused to resort to gratuitous Exclamation Marks. And yet here we are. I fought the tide and fell before the waves. Now I’m like the rest of the plebeians, promiscuous with my punctuation to the point of profligacy.

As I finally begin to write this blog, it is 2:58 AM on Friday morning. I’d planned on writing about taking my kids to the local pride festival and doing some art design for the Di...

Playing Fiasco With Polygon

In an attempt to work through my vasty backlog of half-finished blogs. I’m going to be posting up a few little short ones here and there.

It’s wild to me when I stop to think that back in the day, I used to post up blogs at the rate of 2-3 a week, whereas now it’s more usual for me to post one every 2-3 months.

Though to be fair, a lot was different back then. It was before I had two kids, back before I was trying to run a charity (as opposed to sometimes just running a fundraiser, which is a bi...

“Through Dangers Untold and Hardships Unnumbered….”

(This blog got real long and rambly, even for me. The TLDR is here, if you want.)

*     *     *

Okay. For the avoidance of doubt, this isn’t a blog about Labyrinth.

I *could* write a blog about Labyrinth. Hell, I probably *should* write a blog about Labyrinth.

Did I ever tell the story of the time I dressed up as Jareth from Labyrinth?

(You *can* click to embiggen this, but you probably shouldn’t.)

Yes yes. I know. The resemblance to David Bowie is uncanny.

But as I’ve said, this isn’t a blog a...

Total Party Kiss and Architect Update.

Heya everybody,

Quick post today, as I only have two hours before I’m going to be playing some D&D over on my twitch stream at 2:00 CST today with these fabulous people….

Aaand apparently I can’t upload the title card. Great. Great great. Ugh. It seems like every time I try to post up a blog, even a quick one. It involves 30-40 minutes of me writing things, and two hours of me trying to sort out technical problems and getting formatting to not be shit.

*sigh* Fine. I’ll just use that title card ...

A Quest for Work-Life Balance, A Place for Questions, and Final Events…

As I sit down to write this, it’s just after midnight, and I’ve done a thing that I don’t normally do during the fundraiser.

I’ve taken an evening off.

Well, let me be clear. I did have a little meeting around 4:30. And I did make a couple calls to people to see if they might be interested in helping to read the early chapter of Doors of Stone with me if we hit our stretch goal. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about with that, you’ll have to check out Yesterday’s blog.)

But it was only, like...

Losing Wagers, Doubling Donations, and Playing a Beautiful Game…

So for today’s blog to make sense, you might want to go back and read the one I wrote a couple days ago.

It’s was my favorite blog I’ve written in a while, with some quite nice faerie-tale flavor in parts. So even if you don’t care much about the charity stuff I’m doing, there’s something for you to enjoy there.

For those of you who can’t be bothered, here’s the gist: A couple days ago, I wagered the community that they couldn’t raise $333,333 on my team page before I beat the Ender Dragon in Mi...

Concerning Minecraft, Faerie Bargains, and an Early Peek into The Doors of Stone.

Okay. There’s a story I’ve been wanting to share here for a couple days, but with all the chaos of the fundraiser, I haven’t been able to manage it.

Sorry it’s taken so long, as it’s related to Book Three, and I know that’s something everyone here is interested in to some degree or other.

So here we go:

Once years and miles away, there was a man who loved books, and games , and stories. He did not consider himself wise, but was still wise enough to know he was happiest when he was being a bit of...

Today’s festivities….

Whelp. It’s the 5th day of the fundraiser, and I tell you, since Tuesday a *lot* of things have happened.

First and Foremost, the fundraiser currently stands at over $350,000. Which is a pretty amazing launch.

Secondly, I made a Wager with My Community while livestreaming. It relates to book 3. But I’ll have to write that story up on the blog later tonight….

Because we’ve got *several* events happening today that I’ve got to announce.

First, for those of you who are into D&D… this is happening:

Worldbuilders Day 1: Everything Old is New Again

Well folks, here we are at the start of another shiny new Worldbuilders. I don’t know if you’re excited, but I’m excited.

At least, I *think* this is excitement. It could that I’m working on three hours of sleep and 8 shots of espresso right now.

But you know what, that’s tradition. Here we are, day of the fundraiser, we have so many exciting things tee’d up, and still I’m not as ready as I’d like to be. The sun is shining. It’s beautiful outside, and honestly, I’m scared.

I know that when I pos...

Magic Words….

It probably won’t surprise y’all to know that I think about magic kind of a lot.

There’s a lot of reasons for this, obviously. First, it’s kinda my job. Worldbuilding.

But it’s also kinda my hobby: I’m a geek for fantasy.

It’s also a pleasantly large part of being a dad. I read my boys books, and we play games, and we talk about those things and all their history and context. (See above: geek.) Quite aside from that, sometimes they straight up just ask me out of the blue about myth or superstiti...
