Thriving in Winter (And Looking for a Colorist)

So here we are. February.

In my head, it seems like 2018 has barely ended, but at the same time I know objectively that it’s been months since I updated the blog…

Despite the radio silence, things are actually going pretty well here in rothtown. Those of you who have been reading the blog for a while know that things have been a little emotionally rocky for me the last little… forever. But in this case, the quiet was a signal of things getting better, not getting worse.

Generally speaking, th...

Final Days, Team Pages, and Sharable Graphics Galore…

Hey there everybody,

As I write this, Worldbuilders has just blown past $900,000.

Donations have been *amazingly* strong over the last couple days, especially given that it’s been the weekend, and it’s stunningly hard to get people’s attention on Saturday and Sunday.

I wasn’t sure before, but right now It’s really looking like we’re going to hit $1,000,000 despite all the format changes we made this year.

So for all of you that have helped so far… Thank you. Thank you all for everything you’v...

A Dream of Cows….

Hey there everyone,

As I write this, the fundraiser is closing in fast on three-quarters of a million dollars and there are only three days left.

I’ve been working pretty solid 12-16 hour days for a while, and I’m starting to feel it. So today I’m going to keep it simple and share a video of my little boy: Codename Oot.

For the last couple years, Oot has had his own team page for the fundraiser because he wants to raise money for cows. This year, he had the bright idea of painting some pictu...

Deadlines, Prizes, Auctions, D&D, and… um… Poop

As I write this, the Worldbuilders fundraiser has raised over $665,000 dollars for Heifer international.

I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty great….

A lot of times when I talk about what Heifer International I focus on things like… well… heifers. Or goats. Or Chickens.

Part of the reason is that it’s easy for people to understand how giving a family a flock of chickens what you’re *really* giving them is a long-term supply of fresh food, and an income stream, and the ability to...

Science, Books and Geeks doing Good

Hey there everyone,

If you hadn’t noticed, the Worldbuilders fundraiser is in full swing. In fact, as I’m writing this, our current donation total is over $625,000…

That’s a lot of goats. A lot of chickens. A lot of fruit trees and honey bees. It’s a lot of happy children with full bellies. It’s a lot of parents who get to sleep easier, knowing that they will be able to feed their children in the future.

Together we’re doing something amazing here. And if you’ve already donated, I can’t tha...

On PAX Unplugged and D&D Awesomeness

Hey there everybody,

As many of you know, the 10th Annual Worldbuilders Fundraiser is going on.   We’re three days in and we just passed $400k.   As I’ve mentioned before, this year’s the fundraiser will only be two weeks, but we are packing a whole lot of awesome into them.

Throughout the fundraiser I’ll be streaming daily doing everything from playing games to doing Q&A to hosting panels with some really great people.

If you want to catch a stream, here is my schedule:

If you follow me...

The Coming Storm

So. Tomorrow we launch our yearly fundraiser. It’s our 10th anniversary. A big milestone.

Worldbuilders is my pride and joy. It has changed my life, and I’m as proud of it as I am of my own sweet children, and I love it as much as I love my children. It is a force for good in this weary world, and I’m so proud of the fact that over the years beautiful geeks of all nations have come together, raised nearly 8.5 million dollars, and made the world a better place.

We’re going a lot of new things...

Madison Wisconsin – Signing, Convention, and Livestream D&D

Hey there everybody,

I wanted to let you know that I will be in Madison Wisconsin starting tomorrow.

I’m mostly there for Gamehole Con, but while I’m there I thought I’d stop by Room of One’s Own and do a signing. They’re an awesome indie bookstore in downtown Madison. (Just off state street).

Room of One's Own | Madison, WI

(I’m also fond of them for other reasons, but that will be a blog for a different day.)

This isn’t related to the convention at all, so anyone can stop by.

If you can’t make this time, you can even pre...

Rothfuss Live! (Recorded)

Hey there everyone,

For those of you who don’t tend to attend conventions and might wonder what it is that I do there, here’s a video that shows what happens when I drink *way* too much caffeine and then decide to hold forth on many subjects, including the nature of love…

aaaand I think I’m going to leave it at that.

I’m going to try posting up more shorter blogs starting… well… now. November strikes me as a good time for change. It’s autumn. My favorite season. A time for stories. And I’v...

A Thousand Stories in the Naked City…

Hey there everybody,

I wanted to give y’all a heads up that I’m going to be in New York… well… kinda right now.

I’m doing a bunch of things out here, most of them are at NYCC itself. That said, I also have a couple off-site events that people can come to even if they’re not attending the convention.

Let’s start with the non-ComicCon events, shall we?

Friday the 5th at 2:30: Talking about Fantasy with R.A. Salvatore.

Tickets are available here. (Proceeds go to Worldbuilders.)

(It seems like...
