New Additions to the Family: Japanese editions of Name of the Wind
Those of you who have been reading the blog for a long, long time might remember the early days. Back when everything was fresh and new, and I talked about all the new experiences I was having as an author. My first conventions. My first Guest of Honor gig. My first appearance on the New York Times Bestseller list. My first piece of Kvothe/Bast slashfic.
It was easy to write a lot of blogs back then. Partly because I didn’t have kids or a bunch of other projects taking up my time. But also be...

Upcoming Events: Madison, Amarillo, and GenCon
Hey there everybody,
This year, I’ve been making a point of cutting down on convention travel a bit. (Already so far I’ve passed on Emerald City and PAX East and Phoenix comic-con, all of which I hit last year and really enjoyed.) Part of this is to make room in my schedule for the inevitable trips to LA, because of Kingkiller adaptation stuff. But I’m also trying to cut down on conventions so I can get more work done, and try get my life back into some semblance of order.
That said, I have s...

10th Anniversary Edition: Cover Reveal
Hey there everybody,
As I’ve mentioned before in various places, we’re doing a 10th Anniversary edition of The Name of the Wind later this year.
Today we get to show off the cover:
It’s by Sam Weber, the same guy that did Gaiman’s Norse Mythology.
The new edition isn’t just wrapping paper on the same old thing though. This new edition of the book has a lot more to offer.
Such as more than 20 illustrations inside by Dan Dos Santos.
A few of those illustrations have been floating around for...

Making Change
Heya folks,
We’re four days into this year’s Geeks Doing Good fundraiser. I hope you’ve been enjoying it as much as I have. I’ll admit that I spend a lot of this week refreshing the fundraiser page to see how much we’ve raised.
(Hint – right now we’re at just over $90,000 dollars. Which is pretty good for four days….)
Today I’m going to talk about one of the items we’re trying out for the first time this year: Change Jars.
I’ve talked on the blog before about my own change jar. For the lion’s...

Geeks Doing Good 2017
It’s that time of year again, folks. Time to make the world a better place while buying some delicious geeky swag.
For those of you who are new around here, (or who just missed it, because it only lasts a week) for the last couple years, Worldbuilders has held a Geeks Doing Good fundraiser in the summer.
During this campaign, we throw up a ton of new merchandise on Indigogo. Sometimes we’re giving you an early shot at items we’re developing for The Tinker’s Packs, sometimes we’re giving away...

T-shirts and Onesies: The Votening
Hey there everybody,
It’s been a busy day here at Rothco headquarters. Partly because we’ve been getting a bunch of new products together for the upcoming fundraiser but also because we’ve been collecting and sorting the submissions for our t-shirt and onesie design contest.
It was tough to narrow it down to just a few options, but we did it. And now, in order for us to get things ready before we launch Geeks Doing Good (on June 5th, just in case you were curious) we’ll need to see which shir...

Tattoo 2: News & Tattoos Too
Hey there everybody,
Before we do today’s blog, two quick notes:
First, a reminder that we’re running a t-shirt design contest in anticipation of the Geeks Doing Good fundraiser that we’re running in June. If you’re an arty type, we’d love to see what designs you could come up with. Then we’ll vote on them here in the blog, and the winners will become for-real t-shirts that people can buy for charity. (P.S. We’ll pay you, too.)
Fair warning: You have less than a week to submit your designs. I...

News From Temerant
It’s been a while since I posted up a blog full of interesting things that have been happening around the world that relate to my books. So let’s do that today, shall we?
Here’s something that kinda stunned me when someone passed it my way: The Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performing a piece called “Arliden & Laurian” by Nicolas de Ferran, inspired by The Kingkiller Chronicle.
Yeah. That’s a thing that really happened.
The Guardian included Tak in its monthly write up about board games, and...

Art Contest III: The Artening.
Hey there everybody,
If you’ve been hanging around the blog for a while, you know that in June Worldbuilders holds a fundraiser. It’s called Geeks Doing Good, and we put a bunch of cool geekery up on Indigogo for a week so y’all can come over, ooh and ahhh, then hopefully buy some stuff and help us make the world a better place.
Traditionally, we do some T-shirts during the fundraiser. And we have, in the past, occasionally run contests where people can submit designs for t-shirts which we th...

The Warning on the Door
Y’know what? It’s been a while since we’ve had a cute kid story on the blog here. I think we’re overdue.
So a while back we were having a little party at our house. And my oldest boy Oot….
You guys do know Oot, right? It’s been a while since I talked about him here. He’s the older of my two little boys.
(Here he is winning a game of Tak.)
Oot is 7 years old now, if you can believe it. He is my heart’s delight. And despite my failings, he has grown up sweet and kind and loving and full of empa...
