Patrick Rothfuss's Blog, page 9

October 27, 2017

So… I’m going to be on TV tonight.

Huh. That’s not really an elegant title, is it? But I guess it gets the point across…

Here’s the deal. A couple months back, I shot a pilot for a TV show with the Travel Channel.

That show is going to be airing TODAY (October 27th) at 10pm Eastern Time. On… well… the Travel Channel. Like I said.

(Edit: For those of you who don’t have cable: It’s also a part of live linear schedule on Play Station Vue, Hulu Live TV, & Sling.)

Here’s a teaser.

Have you seen the Mothman? Author @PatrickRothfuss...

JoCo Cruise 2018

Those of you who follow me on social media probably know that for the last several years, I’ve been a part of the JoCo Cruise. What’s more, over the last couple years, they’ve brought on Worldbuilders as their official charity, and they donate a portion of the proceeds every year. (More on that later, for those of you who are fans of Worldbuilders.)

For those of you who don’t know, (and why would you, because I haven’t ever written a blog about it, though I’ve meant to for years) JoCo Cruise...

Worldbuilders: Puerto Rico and Hurricane Relief

Hey there everybody,

As I write this, I’m in a hotel room in Seattle. Tomorrow I have the first event on my short tour for the 10th Anniversary Edition of NOTW.

But it’s hard for me to get excited about the tour. This is partly because I caught a cold the day before I left, and it’s partly because I’m still exhausted from taking care of my dad in Hospice last month, and haven’t even begun to catch up on my sleep, let alone my e-mail…

But more than that. The world is just wearing me out these...

10th Anniversary Edition NOTW: Sneek Peek at Art, Tour Dates, and Events at NYCC

Heya folks…

The 10th Anniversary Edition of the Name of the Wind comes out on Tuesday, (October 3rd.)

What’s that you say? What 10th anniversary edition?

This one:

(I’ve been signing a lot of them for

Now that, my friends, is how you blurb a book. I’m all blushy.

The book has improved, cleaned up text. An introduction, an author’s note (by me), pronunciation guide,...

The Things My Dad Has Said

There’s no easy way to say this, so let’s do it like tearing off a band-aid.

My dad is dying.

And now, having written the simple truth of it down, some part of me feels the need to clarify what I mean. Over the last decade, I’ve become increasingly familiar with the different ways in which a person can be dying. The different velocities and meanderings in which dying can occur.

I started learning this ten years ago, when my mom was having trouble breathing. She couldn’t figure it out. The doc...

Cameos, Poker Chips, and Some Seriously Cool News…

Hey everyone, Amanda here.

Pat’s away on family business, so he’s left it to me to share with you the coolness of the . There’s a chance he’ll poke in here to mock me later on, but for the time being I’ll be your tour guide. Please keep your hands and arms inside the blog at all times.

For those of you who perhaps weren’t aware, we here at Elodin Enterprises are running a Kickstarter for , playing cards that feature the characters f...

The Mighty Mighty Rothtones (And PAX Schedule.)

Does the title of this blog make sense to anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

God. Does *that* reference even work anymore? Am I suddenly, inexcusably old? Am I out of touch with today’s youth? Are millennials killing me?

Welcome to today’s blog. Where apparently the theme is going to be crippling insecurity, early onset dementia, and my own impending decrepitude.

The other theme will be a couple pieces of news that y’all might otherwise miss.

The *other* other theme is that this blog focuses on you hav...

Secrets, Arts, and News of Three Parts

Hey there everybody,

I’m typing this as I sit in a hotel room in Seattle. Tomorrow I fly home to see my babies. But for the last week, I’ve spent my days doing secrety things with cool people.

I can’t really share any details right now. But suffice to say that I had a good time, and you’ll see the fruits of this labor… soonish. Eventually. Before the heat death of the universe at any rate. Probably.

The Name of the Wind Art Deck

So. Here’s the deal. Today we have a bit of an announcement. And by we, I mean me and my team here at Elodin Enterprises. (Yes. That’s really our name.)

But before I tell you what’s happening now, I hope you’ll understand if I mention some of the events that led up to this happening. I’m guessing this format isn’t going to be hugely surprising for any of you. Because that’s how I do.

Once, years ago and miles away, I heard about an artist by the name of Echo Chernik. In litt...

Babies: Meet Bast, Auri, Elodin, and Kvothe

If you’ve been reading the blog for any amount of time, you probably realize that I love babies.

This wasn’t always the case. But over the last 8-9 years (mostly since I’ve become a dad) a whole world of coolness has opened up in my life. Kids are great, and I will talk parenting at the drop of a hat. If I’m out in public, I’m constantly having to restrain myself from asking people to let me play with their kids. (Because I look like a bear, or a hobo. Or a hobear.)

Another thing that’s happe...
