Crapping Presents: In Which Oot is Cute

Heya everybody,

It’s been a while since I told a story about my kids here on the blog. And over the last couple days, my kids have been *particularly* fucking cute. So I figured this was as good a time as any to break my dry spell…

My little boys are, despite my best efforts, getting older. Oot is ten, and just a little while back, Cutie (also known as Cutie Snoo) turned an almost incomprehensible six years old.

(Here they are at Gamehole Con, dressed up as squids.)

Now some of you might...

For Authors, From Authors, or: Critiques and Tuckerizations

Every year, authors and editors donate critiques and tuckerizations to help us raise money forHeifer International. These authors and editors are offering their time and expertise and that spirit of generosity is deeply moving to me. It’s also a service that’s tough to come by if you’re just starting out. What exactly are they offering? Let’s take a look, shall we?

Critiques

With a critique, the author or editor will read your finished manuscript and give feedback. They do this for a...

The Prize Vault!

As I write this Worldbuilders is just about to finish up the first full week of it’s two-week-long fundraiser. We’ve also raised over $385,000, which isn’t too shabby.

Now that I’m back from unplugged, I’ll be livestreaming over on twitch every day through the end of the fundraiser. If you haven’t joined us there yet, you should stop on by!

Here’s the streaming schedule we have for the rest of the fundraiser:

If you want to give the channel a follow, you’ll get notifications of other things...

Unplugged in The City of Brotherly Love

As I write this, the Worldbuilders Fundraiser has raised more than a quarter million dollars in its first three days. Specifically, we’re at $283,000 dollars. Which I have to say, is pretty awesome.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about, wander over there and have a little look around. The upshot is if you donate to our fundraiser, you get to make the world a better place while having the chance to win a bunch of awesome prizes at the same time. More on that below…)

As I write this, I’m...

Seven Words: Or Stay Home And Save the World(builders).

Hey there everybody,

I’m guessing a lot of you are like me, in that you spend Black Friday huddled inside your house, wrapped in a blanket with the lights off, vowing not to go outside for hear of dealing with the worst elements of humanity.

It’s pretty much the same way I’d behave if The Purge were a real thing, come to think of it.

Luckily, Worldbuilders Market online store is running its own sale that you can participate in from the safety of your own house, or even from under a...

Taking some extra money off your boss…

Hey there you delightful, good-smelling paragons of humanity.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the Fundraiser warm-up blog I posted up last Friday. And double thanks to all of you who chimed with companies who match their employees donations to charity.

I’d said I was going to keep a running list at the end of that blog, but that blog was looooong, and it would require a lot of scrolling to get to the list at the end. So instead we’re going to put it here in its very own place.

Here’s the...

Bracing for Impact…

Hey there everybody – long time no blog.

This year has been… a year. It feels like it has stretched on forever. Endless and interminable. Like I’ve been living Zeno’s year.

In other ways the time has blurred by. I feel like I’ve spent the whole year running from emergency to emergency, trying to put out fires. And now, after all of it… the fires are kinda still there? They’re not worse for the most part, which is nice, I suppose. But it feels like I should have more to show for this than...

Events and Booksignings at PAX West Exclamation Point

Hello there.

*clears throat*

The online dictionary I checked defines Seattle as “a port city in West Washinton on the Puget Sound”  In this essay I will …..

No, wait. The joke now is TED talk, right?  Please tell me how the youths joke now? I am alone and confused and this city is so large.  How many nickles do I need to buy a hot dog from a street vendor? Are street vendors still a thing? ARE HOT DOGS?

This weekend (when I’m not scrambling to feel connected to the slang of today) I’ll be at...

The Business of Managing a Business

Hey there everybody, long time no see.

Do you know that feeling happens when you wake up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, excited to get some solid work done?

So you get up, take your meds, and decide to start your day by wrapping up some small projects. Get a nice clean slate. Clear your desk so you can focus on getting the really important stuff done.

But when you open up your e-mail, you realize that first you need to catch up on e-mail. Because when you look up from the bottom of your in...
