THANK YOU, AMAZON.COM…

…for naming "The Signature of All Things" as one of the ten best novels of the year!

So grateful to be in such wonderful company, and curious how many of the other title's you all have read?

"The Goldfinch" is on my list to read next. I'm reading "The Circle" now, and really loved "The Tenth of December". You all may remember that I recommended Ruth Ozeki's "A Tale for the Time Being" on this page when it first came out…

How about all of you? What have you read on this list? And what's missing?

Go Alma!

IN HONOR OF ALFRED RUSSEL WALLACE…

For those of you who have read "The Signature of All Things", let us collectively bow today to the memory of the great Alfred Russel Wallace, who died 100 years ago today.

I fell so deeply in love with him during the reaserch of my novel that I had to twist and turn around the plot, such that he could show up in my story. I needed for Alma and Alfred to know each other, to spend time together. I cried while I was writing their final scene.

He was a scientist of magnificent heart and mind, of crazy imagination, of compassionate soul.

And I would love it if you could all watch this short but BEAUTIFUL animated, paper-puppet little movie about his life.

It made me cry again.

Thank you, A. R. Wallace!

Love,
Liz and Alma

This paper-puppet animation celebrates the life of Alfred Russel Wallace, who is co-credited with Charles Darwin for the theory of natural selection.

EPL on a life-changing road trip…JUST WHERE IT MOST LOVES TO BE!!!

Photos of Elizabeth Gilbert
On a road trip from Charleston through Asheville to Boston on my way to begin the next chapter of my life, and I couldn't imagine a better way to make the time pass. My best friend has never read Eat Pray Love, so I asked her to read it to me on our journey. (This will be my fourth time). This book truly has saved my life many times. Saved my thoughts from depression and helped me make better choices. Thank you so much for writing, caring, and traveling to share your message.

THE MOST THOUGHT-PROVOKING NOVEL OF THE YEAR…

My dear friend, and brilliant novelist, Jonathan Miles has a new book out, and I want everyone to read it.

It's called "WANT NOT" — and it's a compelling, lyrical, ambitious, passionate, compassionate, darkly comic, genuinely humane, unforgettable story about waste in contemporary American society (material waste, emotional waste, consumer waste, every kind of waste.)

I don't want to give away too much of the driving, galloping plot, but I will just say these two things:

1) Dave Eggers just wrote a RAVE review of this novel in the NY Times Book Review, and

2) When I read this book in manuscript last year, I called my friend Jonny and told him, "You're going to win the Pulitzer for this." If there is any literary justice, he will.

Read it, you guys.

For real.

A lovely story about my Dallas event from the great and vivacious Dallas journalist Joy Tipping…along with a photo of Lindsay Prevette, my tireless publicist, who has been with me every step of this long book tour journey — and who is the reason I am still standing upright and smiling!

Author Elizabeth Gilbert loves Dallas, and Dallas adores her right back, at Monday book event

I've met and visited with a lot of authors, and seen perhaps 50 or so interact with fans over the years, and I can honestly say I've never seen any writer handle her adoring throngs of admirers with more grace, generosity and goodness of heart than Elizabeth Gilbert. (And yes, I do have a …
