Before You Go To Your Local Comic Shop This Week…

Before you go out to your local comic shop from tomorrow (or Thursday in the UK), have a look at this.

To The Pro Comics Creators Within The Sound Of My Voice

This here is a list of the comics supposedly shipping this week.

Is there a pro comics creator within the sound of my voice who has a book coming out this week? If you do: want to mention it? Talk about it? Point at a website, a blog entry, a bit of art, whatever… let these many thousands of people with disposable income know about it?

This is the link to do it at.

I’ll try this for a few weeks, maybe, see if it lives.

Whoops

Astronauts discover a long stretch of damage on the space shuttle Atlantis.

The shuttle appears to be in good overall shape, but the survey did uncover a 53cm (21in) line of chips on the vehicle’s right side. The line of chips uncovered by the inspection are in thick tiles that make up the protective heat shield on Atlantis’ starboard side. The damage is located where the right wing joins the shuttle’s fuselage. Nasa said the chips could be related to a debris event detected by the wing’s leadi

Engineering Fiction And The Endurance Capabilities Of My Friends

Sometimes I get very tired and make my friends look at messages like:

in my head there is an Engineering Fiction comic called KONSTRUKT and it only uses Futura because Futura has Mythic Resonance and the cover is a girl in an oil-stained wifebeater and urban-camo pants holding a wrench in one hand and behind her repurposed Lunar landers are lowering electrogel girder-muscles into place around a fuelless launcher that’ll fling areo-hardened black mosses at Mars and yes i might be a bit tired today

On Whitechapel This Afternoon (12may09)

Okay, quick round-up of what else is going on in my internet cave before I get on to the usual stuff like half-naked friends of mine, things exploding, people with car parts inserted in their arses etc:

* Webcomics Week (May 2009) — is amazing, and still going strong. If you’re doing a webcomic, please go there and tell me about it. Some astonishing-looking work has already been listed. You should see it.

* The Steampunk Telegraph — a thread that has eerily and steamily returned from the dead

The Minicomics Stand

Who here is producing their own minicomics?

Tell us about them. Show me one or two images (no more than that, or the thread will choke). Most importantly, tell us how we can get hold of them.

I am holding in reserve a long half-coherent rant about DIY being the order of the day and minicomics always having been, for as long as I can remember, the absolute lifeblood of the medium.

Begin at this link, at Whitechapel — NOT on the comments thread of this post — please and thank you.

A New Comics Creators’ Sampler Aimed At All Literary Journalists

Not my idea, but old friend and PR professional Alistair Pullings’ idea. Really interesting notion. Go and have a read.

A Proclamation By A Man Who Badly Needs Sleep Or Death

I demand that all comics from now on be like this.

See to it.
