Vacation Pictures 1: Out and about in Roswell
As promised, it's picture time from last week's New Mexico vacation! Some family and friends have already seen these, but now it's time for the wide, wide world to share in the fun. In browsing our set, it looks like I may have to do multiple posts to get them all up here. Roswell alone has, like, 60 pictures. So let's go!
When you first arrive in Roswell, it looks like any small, military town. You drive down a main road filled with familiar restaurants and store chains. Then, you start notic...

Movie type questions
I'm back home from vacation, and just like after all trips, I'm SO glad to be back in my routine and familiar surroundings. Traveling is fun, but home is home for a reason. And unlike New Mexico, my home is set at about 5 ft altitude vs. 7000 ft, so I'm loving this oxygen, yo. Never realized what a difference that could make.
Anyway, the next few posts are going to be filled with vacation pictures, but before I subject you to those, I want to touch on some film stuff because the announcement a...

Positive vacation encounter report
In continuing our New Mexico vacation, my husband and I arrived in Santa Fe yesterday. The difference between northern and southern New Mexico can't even be described in a blog post like this. The landscape and buildings (and population) are totally different.
Santa Fe is very much a town whose core is built on arts and tourism. While walking back from dinner last night, we stumbled upon the city's summer concert series, which kicked off with a magic show from local group Clan Tynker. Let me t...

This space for rent
Leaving Roswell was hard, but New Mexico is a big state, and we have a lot to see on this vacation. Today, my husband and I trekked out to Alamogordo, famous for its proximity to a number of military sites and the White Sands Missile Testing area--home of the first nuclear explosion. Adjacent to that site is White Sands National Park, where you can enjoy the beauty of that white, gypsum desert landscape without risking national secrets or getting radiation poisoning.

Reflections on Roswell
Well, I still have no vacation pictures yet. I have a feeling they're going to come in a big post near the end. My husband is staff photographer now, so he has all the pictures on his camera. If they were on mine, there'd probably be no socializing going on because I'd spend this whole trip thinking up witty captions for the sights we've seen. So, it's just as well I'm cut off for a bit.
And believe me, we've seen some sights. Since I allegedly make a living off words, however, I figure I can ...

Alienation
Okay, quick update. I've been sending updates to Twitter and Facebook but haven't had a chance to let you guys know where I'm at. Part of this is because I intended to wow you with lots of pictures for my first vacation post. The other part is that internet access has been sketchy here...in Roswell.
Yes, the first part of my vacation is taking place in Roswell, New Mexico, at its annual UFO Festival. And yes, I have TONS of good pictures. It'll be a while before I can post, though, because the...

Vacation for me, much anticipated news for you
Brace yourselves for some shocking news: I'm going on vacation tomorrow. Like, a real vacation with my husband in which I don't sign ANY BOOKS at all. This is our first real vacation in over a year, not counting our 4-day wedding weekend and a requisite family trip. Where are we going? That'll be revealed soon when I get there. Expect some awesome pictures.
Before I leave you guys, I have all sorts of news. First, we have a publication date for Georgina #6--and a title! It's going to be called...

Legit VA goods at last!
Some of you heard me give a sneak-peek of this on Facebook, but here's the scoop on some exciting news. There's now a site selling officially licensed Vampire Academy merchandise. Now, there are other sites out there selling VA stuff, but without getting into too much detail or blame, the bottome line is that those are sites selling content without my or Penguin's permission, meaning they're profiting off things they really shouldn't be.
But again, that's neither here nor now because now we ...

FedEx isn't going to deliver your grocery store coupons
Here's the scoop: I'm a post office snob. Why? Because I'm there all the time for any number of reasons: mailing someone books, sending reams of paperwork to my agency, shipping birthday presents, paying the IRS, checking my p.o. box, etc. etc. When you go to a place a lot, you get to know all its services and systems pretty well. You know exactly what to do and have everything ready to go when you step through the door. And that means you get impatient with people who don't know these things...
