Untitled
I told you that.
maybe I didn’t.
maybe it was all my head.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
but yeah, your hair was longer.
and you were darker.
it wasn’t a tan or your
clothes or anything like that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
maybe you haven’t been sleeping.
maybe you’ve been making love
to the past, and I’m not there.
I’m here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀yeah I think that’s it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
your forest eyes echo sadness
and I just want to wander in them,
⠀⠀⠀⠀to get lost.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
you ran your finger along my
rib cage, in that dim shower,
⠀⠀⠀⠀where I shivered in the steam.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
you ran it along your words.
I was a fool, I had scar tissue
with your signature below
lungs that wont tell you
to just join the horizon.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
I guess I was hoping
that somehow that would
mean you would walk with me
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀forever.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
but no, they were just words.
you were just words.
the ones on my skin
were the only ones
that would never change.

Love, the unrequited kind
I can not keep track of the amount of times I have been asked about my first book of poetry. Where is it? What will it be called? What’s it about? What’s the cover look like? Etc… I have been in a state of limbo for most of the year. I want nothing more than to get my words into your hands. I want it to happen now! I am an impatient person! Ha. But I am going to have to wait a bit longer to release Confessions. Is that my title? Hell, this week it is. I can’t even settle on a title, guys! See why this is taking forever!?
In the meantime I am going to be releasing an ebook only collection of poems on Amazon. There will be work familiar to my instagram readers, and new work. The amazing Alicia Cook, who I am huge fan of, will be editing for me.
These poems are all centered around that bitch we like to call unrequited love. And who of us has not felt that? If any one of you can tell me every single person you have ever wanted has wanted you back, please go away. You make me sick… jk. I love you.
I will be revealing the title of this book in my next post. It is a phrase you have seen me use before, many of you can probably guess. For now just look at the pretty cover!

Let’s Make The World Better
Did you know October is Domestic Violence Awareness month? Well you do now. Why is it important to know that? Because domestic violence is an extremely serious issue. It can have a huge range of consequences if it goes undealt with and in some cases has even lead to death.
I urge you all to reach out in your community. Find a charity to donate your time or money to. I plan on doing just that. Join me.
I will be giving funds to Harmony House. A local Missouri shelter.
Harmony House provides safe and secure emergency housing to families escaping domestic violence. Since 1976, our emergency shelter has offered women and their children the opportunity to rest and heal both emotionally and physically in a supportive environment. Each year, Harmony House provides shelter, case management, advocacy and other supportive services to more than 700 women and children. In addition to shelter services, Harmony House also offers outreach support, advocacy and prevention education services. It is our mission to help women break the cycle of domestic violence and live lives free from abuse.
If you or someone you know is living in an abusive situation, encourage them to call 417-864-SAFE (7233)

When We Outgrow Our Bones
So, October is here, which means poetry prompt time is over. BOOOO!!!
Incase you missed it, during the month of September my friend Kat Savage and I hosted a series of poetry prompts called When We Outgrow Our Bones. It was so much fun to read what everyone came up with and this morning the hashtag had nearly 3,000 pieces attached to it! Wow guys, wow. That means the world to us.
I hope to still see work rolling in! Honestly, rules are dumb. If you haven’t completed the list it doesn’t mean you have to stop writing from it just because it’s a new month. I wish we could give you a new list every month but we both have so much going on!
What we can do is this—
Every Wednesday Kat and I will roll out a new prompt to get your creative juices rolling. Keep your eye on this page and both of our instagram pages to see what we come up with!
Again, thank you so much writing with us.
Jen

Paper Clouds Swag
I got some great mail today from Paper Clouds Apparel. The shirt I am wearing was designed by Logan at Crumb Diaries. I encourage you all to check out the Paper Clouds website and get yourself some swag. They are a wonderful organization.
Paper Clouds Apparel was formed to showcase the creative minds and artistic abilities of individuals with special needs while raising funds to provide financial support for special needs schools and organizations. We achieve this goal by selling t-shirts, hats and totes featuring artwork designed by individuals with special needs. Paper Clouds Apparel also hires individuals with special needs to package all of our sensory-friendly clothing. Fifty percent of the net proceeds from the sale of all merchandise is given to the cause we are promoting in each campaign.

The Giving Keys— Tell Me Your Story
PO BOX
984
Lebanon MO
65536
Above you will find my brand new PO Box. I opened it with this idea in mind.
This giveaway will be different than any other I’ve done before. This isn’t about sharing my work or getting to a certain number of followers or raising money or hashtags. This is about giving you a chance to tell me your story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I purchased my necklace from The Giving Keys earlier this year and have worn it nearly every day. I love it. But it is time for me to pass it on. It is time for me to pay it forward.
If you would like to own this necklace I ask that you do two things-
1- Find a key to donate.
2-Tell me how writing has changed your life. I am not necessarily looking for stories about how MY writing has helped or changed you. It can be any writing. It can be how your writing has changed you. How a book has changed you. How a poem carried you through a rough time, etc… I just want to know how the written word has helped you.
Send your story and at least 1 key to donate to the above address. Once I have 40+ keys I will choose a winner.
When choosing a key to donate please see their website for the guidelines. They can’t use just any key when making their wonderful jewelry. You will find the information at the bottom of the site under Donate Your Keys.
The Giving Keys has employed 19 people experiencing homelessness, providing opportunities for the team members to move into permanent housing. I think it is a wonderful organization. I placed another order for myself just this past weekend.
