Connie Spanhake began her career as a children’s author. She was raised in a military family and has moved for most of her childhood. Her traveling experiences are prevalent in her series, The Code. She has also written picture books that have helped children learn about adversity, respect, and diversity.

Currently, she has switched over to writing novels. Her novel, Finding Me, debuted in 2018 and has since then also become an audiobook. It was also placed as a Top Ten Finalist in the Author Academy Awards. She is now editing her second novel, Dark Secrets, and when she needs a break from that she works on her newest book which has yet to be named.

I live in the country so it's very peaceful and quiet and I can think. If I don't make myself crazy and just relax then ideas will sometimes pop into my head.
Sometimes, I just sit down at my computer and start typing random things until an idea starts to form. I keep telling myself that all I have to do is write one sentence. That sentence grows into another one and so on. I also tell myself that it's not a final draft so just write and don't worry about everything else. You can change it all later. (less)

Character Development

When I started writing Finding Me I wanted to portray strong female relationships. Each character is the polar opposite of the other but somehow they find a way connect.

Jenna: Okay, so I may be a bit of a rebel, and if my parents would have described me it would have been different. Their rendition would have been something like she’s a troublemaker, party girl, liar, and lazy. I’m not going to l Read more of this blog post »
