EXCERPT:
“If only it were that simple. I can always rewrite this scene if I show you. You’ll have no memory of it.” He paced, talking to himself with his head down. “I don’t want to mess you up any more than I have. It has strange effects on those who see it. I –”
She put her hands up, not sure what he was rambling on about. He’s gone off the deep end. Hook retraced his steps and gestured with his hands before running them through his hair, making it even wilder. Watching him made her dizzy, but she did get a good look at his tight ass. Jasmine bit her lip and felt her heart flutter at the sight before she stepped in front of him. Micha kept mumbling and bumped into her.
“What’s with you?” Hell, the longer she was around him, the longer she wondered if he was capable of kidnapping her. Maybe the thug gassed me when he stuck his head into the window. All the stuff with Micha getting into the car and writing with a magic pen has to be a hallucination. His eyes flashed green for a split second when he looked up. “Sorry. I’ve never shown it to anyone. It has a profound effect on those who see it. I don’t know how it will change you.
Talking in circles with him tired her out. If Jasmine hadn’t been out in the middle of nowhere, she would get the hell out of there. “Show me, already. After all this, I kinda deserve to know what it is.”
He flashed her a half-crooked smile that made him look cuter. The last of the sun glinted off his glasses. “You’re right.”
Anticipation hung in the air. Jasmine held her breath while Micha rooted around in the trunk. He came back out with his precious cargo clasped protectively against his chest. She chuckled and threw her hands up. “Your mob boss is after a book?
“It’s more than just a book,” he whispered. His expression fell as though she’d killed his favorite kitten. Tattered greenish-yellow velveteen covered a book the size of a dictionary. “It’s more than a book.” His voice dropped. Micha patted the cover lovingly. “You don’t want to hurt her feelings. She can get a bit temperamental. I think that’s how it all went wrong in the first place, but it… Well, never mind.
“Her? Why do you… It’s just a ragtag book that’s seen better days.” She ran her fingers through her hair and tried to figure out how she had gotten into such a messed-up situation. “Forget it. At least tell me it’s a Shakespearean play no one has published. An undiscovered Mark Twain manuscript. Fuck, even a first edition of the Bible written by the son of God himself for it to be worth all the trouble you’ve gone through for it.”
Micha petted the cover. “You should apologize for insulting her.”
“I’m not apologizing to a book. When did it become a her?” Jasmine reached out to take the volume, but Micha stepped back. “This is ridiculous. Give me the darn thing.”
Jasmine went after him and grabbed the volume. The smooth cover slid under her fingers. Warmth glided over the fingertips as she yanked it away and nearly pulled him back. However, he wrestled it back from her. Micha grunted as he jerked it away. He lost his footing and stumbled backward. The book tumbled from his hands and landed a few feet away. Jasmine fell on top of Micha, knocking the wind out of her. They locked eyes for a few precious seconds. The guy might have been a little off, but he was something to look at. It’s his eyes. I’ve always been a sucker for the eyes. The green faded back to their vibrant blue. A blast of heat singed her arm until she cried out.
“Get off me.” Micha pushed her away.
She landed a few inches from the book. The ground shook and cracks appeared underneath it, spreading into the graveyard. An emerald glow emanated from the tome and slipped into the fissures. Each widened as another small tremor hit. The earth rolled under Jasmine’s feet. The green radiance highlighted the white crosses of the cemetery. The atmosphere turned eerie as Jasmine tried to understand what was happening.
“Shit. Now you’ve done it. Once she uses her powers, they can home in on her. I brought you here so we could rest, and she could reset. Even if I rewrite the scene and erase your memory again, it won’t matter this time.”
The pages of the volume rustled back and forth. Each time the book reached its end and started over again, the green illumination transformed to a burnt gold. Heat radiated off the pages and warmed her face. Another tremor hit them, causing a small fissure to open underneath her. Jasmine rolled out of the way, but closer to the book. She blinked at what she saw on the pages. Words ripped themselves off the page and floated above the volume. They glowed like the writing she thought she’d seen Micha do with his pen. An earsplitting screech came from the sky. The noise chilled her to the marrow of her bones. Jasmine looked up and saw several black shapes splayed against the bright half-moon like wayward bats trying to find a home. She tore her gaze from them and went back to the book. The writing resettled back on the parchment and became regular text. She tried to read it, but couldn’t understand the language. Next to the page was a picture of a village at night. A light shone in a window at the top of a bell tower, but she couldn’t make out the rest of the buildings. A shadow blacked out the window as though someone walked across it and cast their shadow. No book could show movement in it. Jasmine reached over to touch the book to make sure all this was real. Micha jumped between her and the hardback. His eyes burned green.
“They’re coming. Neither of us is safe now.”
“What about the book? It… How is it doing that?”
“Don’t worry about her right now. We have to get away.”

Shadow & Ash
After a year of talking, Aisling is finally going to meet Rance in person. Devilishly handsome, he’s haunted her dreams ever since she saw his picture.
Their first meeting doesn’t go as planned.
Nearly killed by a vampire hunter, Aisling is pulled into a dark world where vampires are real. Rance isn’t the man he purports to be and Markus, his sire, has another agenda for Aisling.
On the run from the hunters, she finds herself in a new city and a die-hard attraction to Markus that she can’t shake. Trying to blend in and forget about vampires, she’s dragged back into their blood soaked world.

Excerpt
Rance leaned against the glass frontage of Midnight Grounds, half shrouded in shadows. His shoulder length black hair was caught back in a ponytail. The illumination of the lights along his skin bleached the color from his already pale skin. A breeze teased a strand of hair from the elastic so it played along his cheek. She bit her lip envious at how the lock touched his flesh. The photo didn’t do his beauty justice.
She stood on the corner, the electric energy of the night playing along her flesh. Tiny prickles of anticipation jolted her nerves. A deep hunger gnawed at her belly. Aisling drew in a deep breath and focused on the power in the air until her fingers tingled. Warmth flowed up from her hands, along her arms, and settled over her heart. The longer she concentrated on the sensation of pulling in the energy, the warmer she became. Her hunger lessened.
Pedestrians passed by her and their auras—the energy fields surrounding their bodies—brushed along hers. The thought of tapping into those crossed her mind, but she shoved the idea away. Her hands still shook, and her stomach roiled. Maybe I shouldn’t do this. She wiped her sweaty palms on the fabric of her skirt. Aisling sucked on her tongue ring—pushing it up and down inside her mouth—and clinked it against her teeth. Even her toes shook. This is ridiculous. I’ve been talking to him for over a year now. I know him.
“Yeah, but how much do you know him?” Paige had asked her the question before Aisling left her apartment.
More than I ever knew you before I told you what I was.
That didn’t stop you from hanging out with me. Aisling dismissed her friend’s doubts and pushed up her glasses. Car headlights blinded her as a vehicle sped around the corner. She threw up her hand to protect her eyes from the glare and withdrew into the concealing darkness. Her eyeteeth tingled. A slow burn unwound in the pit of her stomach. Fuck. Her hunger remained unsatisfied. She ran her tongue over her teeth and willed the craving back. When her hunger raged, phantom fangs pressed against her lips. Aisling jammed her nails into the meat of her palm. The pain helped forcing the hunger back. Her gaze sought Rance once more, but he had vanished.
She stepped into the dim light of the café and searched along Massachusetts Avenue for him. People passed her by staring at their phones. Others smoked and moseyed along. Shit. He must’ve thought I wasn’t going to show and booked. She checked her phone to see if she missed a message from him. Nothing. Maybe I didn’t really see him. It wouldn’t be the first time I thought I saw something.
A deep laugh erupted next to her ear. Aisling spun around and found Rance leaning against a telephone pole gazing straight at her. A wide grin spread on his sensuous lips. The smile made him more breathtaking than the dark brooding photo on her phone. A ladder of silver hoops hung in both of his ears. Long onyx lashes surrounded his smoky eyes. A sprinkling of stubble shadowed his chin.

EXCERPT
Samuel tugged on his shirt and checked his watch. He was early, but he hated being late. He examined his reflection in the glass. The circles under his eyes were deeper. Sleep had come easily the night before. This time his nightmare had changed. The nightly vision became one inhabited with large bears challenging him, a man in the woods observing this, and some other male presence in the shadows. All their faces remained obscured.
Samuel had chosen a newer pair of jeans and a button down shirt to make him look somewhat respectable. He wasn’t sure he could pull it off. Booker was counting on him, and he would never let his friend or pack leader down. He tugged at the collar, butterflies bombarding his stomach. Meeting clients was always the worst. He checked his watch one more time. They hadn’t shown up yet, which meant they either weren’t coming or they were already inside.
Taking a deep breath, he entered Giuseppe’s. No one manned the podium. Forks scraped over china, making him wince at the shrill sound. Delicious aromas assailed his nose. His stomach grumbled at the thought of food.
Samuel perused the patrons and heard Walter before he saw him. The boisterous laugh resonated within the room. He turned toward the chuckle and saw a shock of brown hair shot through with white. Walter had on jeans and a blue flannel shirt. Booker sat across the table from him. A white jacket hung on the back of one of the chairs. A virtual buffet was spread on the table. Samuel didn’t see Nia. Booker gestured for him to come join them. He started to walk toward them when the world went black. Smooth hands covered his eyes. His nostrils flared at the aroma of vanilla masking the heady scent of the bear. He growled low in his throat. The sultry laughter behind him made his pulse race. It stirred the wolf in him. Samuel spun around and seized the arms of the person who had blinded him.
Her chiseled cheekbones signaled her Native American heritage. Her skin was lightly golden, a mixture of different browns and tans he didn’t have a word for. Her bright blue eyes reminded him of a cloudless sky. Dark brown hair cascaded down her back in lush ringlets. Her full lips had him so mesmerized while she spoke he didn’t catch what she was saying.
“… letting me go please?”
The words registered. Samuel released her, still dumbfounded at her beauty. His cock stiffened at the thought of climbing between her thighs, experiencing her soft curves, and discovering what she tasted like. “Sorry.”
She snapped her fingers before his face. He blinked again and withdrew from his daze. “Samuel.”
“What?” he barked. It seemed as if he was awaking from a sleep. Then again, the fitful nights were grating on him.
“It’s me. Nia.”
He forced his lips into a smile. “Hi. Sorry. I didn’t recognize you.”
“Uh-huh. It has been forever. God, you must remember the pain in the ass following you guys around all the time.”
“Sounds about right.”
“There you two are. Nia, did you find your phone in the car?” Booker asked her, tugging on Samuel’s shirt to get his attention. “Where were you?”
“Sorry, boss.” He threw the pack alpha a smile.
“Hey, Booker. I did find it.” Nia held up her phone showing she had retrieved it. “Slipped between the seats. Happens a lot. God, I’m starving. I hope Walter hasn’t been a bear. I know my father can get rather loud.”
“Not at all. Come on and sit down. We ordered a few appetizers while we were waiting for everyone to get here.”
Samuel followed the two of them. The sway of Nia’s hips made his wolf howl within his mind. He winced at the sound but enjoyed the way the black fabric of her skirt spread over the round mounds of her ass. She had curves in all the right places. He always preferred a woman with some meat on her bones. This certainly wasn’t the girl he remembered. She had come into her own.
Nia slid into her seat across from him. The vee neckline of her purple sweater rested just on the dip of her breasts. She laughed at something Booker said. Her lips spread into a dazzling grin, and her eyes twinkled under the overhead lights.
A sharp pain in his thigh made him tear his gaze from Nia. Booker shot him a murderous look. He bit his lip and tried to hide the chuckle bubbling up inside of him. Booker lifted an eyebrow, and Samuel knew he wanted him to pay attention to their potential clients rather than check out Nia. His wolf wasn’t listening to him. His gaze moved back over to Nia. Her lips moved again and all he could think about was tasting them.

Souped Up By the Alien Vampire Mechanic

Pulled from her life on Earth, all Melony Pike wants is to return home. Instead, she’s on a distant planet with her sister, Abigail, and Abigail’s alien mate. She knows they can’t return to Earth — she’d be hunted down and experimented on for the alien technology implanted in her neck. But even with other human women on the planet, she still feels out of place. She sure isn’t looking for a green alien mate.
Brax is a fixer, an alien mechanic. He’s been alone for a long time and he’s not looking for anyone. Then he meets Melony and his world shifts. However, a looming invasion threatens the one thing he wants. He will do anything to cement the relationship between him and Melony and will stop anyone from getting to her.
EXCERPT
Melony trailed her fingers through the fine black sand, as smooth as the contents of an hourglass broken open and standing still. The vastness of the beach made her feel as frozen as time did in this place. Turquoise ocean waves lapped at the shoreline, pulling back the sand as the tide went out. With each wave, it felt like more of her previous life washed out into the foreign ocean. The sulfuric tang of the air stuck to her tongue. She let out a long sigh.
While the picturesque landscape reminded her of a Caribbean island, the sky’s slightly purple sheen and the three moons hovering above her reminded her daily she was on a planet called Tilleron, ten light years away from Earth. All because her sister, Abigail, had fallen in love with a green alien who sucked blood and was obsessed with plants. Jaril had brought the sisters to his planet to save their lives. The Earth’s military had been about to experiment on her sister because they wanted the technology implanted in her neck.
The cool breeze fluffed her auburn hair and her stomach grumbled. The sun glinted off a silver spaceship as it descended from the sky. It sailed over her head and landed somewhere close by. It resembled the ship which Jaril had used to whisk them away, but her green-skinned brother-in-law and her sister were both on the planet enjoying mated bliss. Three months had passed since Melony had last had a decent meal. All the weird fruit and meat from this planet didn’t taste bad, but it wasn’t an Italian sausage and mushroom pizza. Lord, she missed peanut butter.
“There you are. We haven’t seen you all day.” Abigail’s voice came from behind her.
Melony curled her fingers into the sand and took a deep breath. She had argued with her sister on many occasions about returning home. Melony counted to ten before turning around and forcing a smile. “Just needed some space. You two are worse than teenagers when you get all moon-eyed over each other.”
Abigail sat next to her and rubbed her knee. The quick flash of red on Abigail’s cheeks reminded Melony how much Abs loved her alien mate. “You don’t have to run away every time you see us kissing. I know Jaril’s not the easiest person to get along with. He gets on my nerves when he starts on a tangent about his plants — I have to remind him I’m in the room. But he means well.”
“Don’t you want to go back to Earth and have a relationship with a human?” The words slipped out, but Melony already knew the answer to this particular argument. They couldn’t go back.
Her sister squeezed her thigh. “I’ve already told you how it works with them. Once he heard me moan, he knew I was his mate. He’s my other half. This place is different, but you’ve always been about unique experiences. It doesn’t matter to me he’s not human. Why do you hate them? Think about all the sucky boyfriends you’ve had.”
“They were all dead ends, like my jobs. If you recall, the reason I moved to California was to get a fresh start. I don’t hate Jaril or the rest of them. I’m just… This wasn’t what I had planned.” Abigail wasn’t wrong. Melony had ended up with some strange guys. The ones with too many tattoos who had a weird fetish and wanted her to pee on them. Mel shivered when she thought of Nicolas. Then there had been Edvard. Everything had been fine for the first couple of months until their date fell on a full moon. He confessed he was a werewolf. She’d had another who yearned to suck on her nose. Melony could rattle off a list of strange men as long as her arm.
The same with her jobs. She’d worked in a bakery and pulled taffy in a sweet shop, and waitressed on roller skates at an old-fashioned diner. Mel had a great resume of life experiences, but it wasn’t until she moved to California that she’d had a chance to put her skills together to use with a national chain of sweet shops. It was going great until the military rolled up in a black Hummer and pulled her out of a meeting saying her sister was in trouble. She still had nightmares about them not telling her anything about what was going on with Abigail. Hell, it had been even worse than when her sister had disappeared for several days the year before that. They had been on their last camping trip into the mountains before she departed for California. The panic she’d felt when her sister disappeared replayed in her dreams. Then Abs had reappeared talking about a green man who’d saved her…

Planted by the Alien Vampire Scientist (Alien Vampires 3)

When Abigail Pike goes hiking with her sister, she never expected she’d walk right into a seven-foot-tall green alien.
Jaril came to Earth to study its plants. He didn’t intend to rescue a human when she falls and hits her head on a rock after she runs into him. To save her, Jaril must implant his technology in her.
Overcoming her fear, Abigail returns to the cave where she first met the alien. This time he’s the one who’s injured. The longer she’s around Jaril, the more she’s drawn to him, but Jaril needs to return to his ship to be healed properly.
Abigail doesn’t want to give up her life on Earth, but she might not have a choice if she wants to be with Jaril. Whoever said understanding plants was easier than humans has never met a green alien vampire.

Excerpt:
“Do you think this is a good idea?”
“We’ve had this discussion. I’ll be fine. The lunar caves will keep you concealed. The humans won’t be able to detect you hidden so deep beneath the surface.”
“It’s not me I’m worried about.” Talix leaned against the ship’s gray metallic wall and crossed her arms over her chest. Her solid form dissolved until Jaril could see the console behind her.
Jaril rolled his eyes while he gathered more instruments to take to the planet with him. He could always come back up for more. It offered more risk of exposure, though. The idea of all the various specimens he would encounter made him giddy. He scanned the instruments once more and decided he had enough devices to set up his habitat and lab on the planet. “I’ll be deep enough in the cave the humans won’t find me. The humans are primitive. I’ll be fine.”
“They’re not as primitive as you think. Didn’t you go over the manifests brought back by the other ships? The humans have new technologies. They are aware of us. They’re planning on going to Mars. You’re excited to delve into the vegetation of this puny world. I told you there are better –”
“Talix. Enough.” He threw up his hands and closed the case. Jaril hefted it from the workstation and went into the docking bay where the scout ships were moored. He pressed his hand against the side of one. The metal melted away to reveal a door. He ducked inside and set the case next to the others. Jaril would be cramped with everything he was taking, but he preferred it to scattering his atoms. “Do you have the coordinates programmed into the navigation computer?”
“Yes, they’re entered because we both know you’re a horrible navigator. I’ll be doing most of the flying.” Talix’s image flashed inside the small ship. The instrument panel lit up and the pilot’s chair glided backward for Jaril to sit.
“Yeah, I know I’m better with plants than living creatures.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice. This is still an isolated planet. We really don’t…”
He glanced at the shaky image of his ship’s computer. The artificial intelligence had been his constant companion as he went from one planet to another gathering specimens. He had all the different plant species cataloged on his home planet of Tilleron. Each time others of his race returned from their travels, they brought back data about the worlds they had visited or scanned. The last three ships which had returned from Earth had given him the idea to explore this particular planet for himself. Talix had tried to tell him to stay on Tilleron. He hadn’t want to hear it. The idea of Earth was stuck in his mind. At the moment, they hovered near Mars.
“We’re almost to their moon. We have the coordinates for the lunar cave where you will stay while I’m on Earth. You’ve programmed the route to the cavern in the planet where I’m going to park the scout ship. I don’t intend to be bothered by humans. If I need to go out among them, I have garments to blend in along with our cloaking tech to keep me invisible if needed.”
“Let’s hope you do. How are you going to survive down there without any Plasma Units?”
“I’ll find one among the humans as the others did. I have enough bottled substance to last me a while. If you’re done, we’re in range. I’ll be fine.”

ABOUT THE BOOK
Alora – I’ve prided myself on being a strong, independent woman and not needing anyone. I didn’t become a bestselling author by the age of twenty out of pure dumb luck. I worked my tail off to get as far as I have. But there are few perks to having a man in my life. Laughter, romance, and companionship. Battery operated boyfriends can only do so much. Too bad the guy who sets me on fire is a bossy biker who wants to claim me. No way I’m letting him label me as property. Nope. Not happening. Doesn’t matter if he does make my knees weak and my heart race. I’m not giving in!
Rooster – Of all the women to capture my interest, it had to be the most stubborn, sexy, adorable woman on the planet. I love her mind, her sense of humor, and the way she fills out a pair of shorts. I don’t even mind that she’s an exhibitionist, as long as no one touches. Doesn’t matter to me her uncles were both rotten to the core. The Devil’s Fury may think she belongs to them, but I have other plans. Alora will be mine — no matter the cost.
WARNING: Rooster is part of the Devil’s Boneyard MC series. There are adult situations and bad language. No cliffhanger. Happily-ever-after and laughter guaranteed!

EXCERPT
The front door nearly rattled off the hinges when someone started pounding on it. If I hadn’t known King Kong was a fictional character, I’d think he was on my porch. What the hell?
I narrowed my eyes in the direction of the front entry and went to answer it. It wasn’t like I knew anyone in town. I’d only been here a month, which made it doubtful I’d pissed anyone off — yet. I yanked it open, ready to tear into whoever was on the other side, but stopped and stared.
The man arched his eyebrows and tipped his sunglasses down enough to peer over the top of them. God, why did I find that so sexy? He’d braced an arm against the doorframe and his muscles bulged. I licked my lips and tried to remember how to speak. As my gaze skimmed over him, it snagged on the black leather over his shoulders. Fuck. It was one of the bikers.
Rooster – Devil’s Boneyard MC.
“You going to let me in, a ghrá?”
His voice sent chills down my spine and my nipples hardened against my thin tank. He smirked, clearly knowing the effect he had on me. Asshole.
“I don’t let strangers into my home,” I said. I peered over his shoulder and saw another man on a motorcycle at the curb. It seemed only one of them wanted to come into the house. Thank goodness for small favors.
He leaned in, the scent of cinnamon and cloves making me want to breathe in deep. “But we’re not strangers. You’re Twister’s niece, which makes you Devil’s Fury property. Since we consider them family, that makes you mine.”

EXCERPT
Meriel ran her fingers through her hair and stared at the mess of boxes she had to contend with. Sunlight streamed in through the cobwebbed windows, highlighting the dust she’d stirred by setting foot in the attic. She gathered her hair, twisted it into a bun, and thrust a pen through it. A piece came loose and draped in front of her eyes. She stuck it behind her ear and groaned as she looked at the list of things her sister, Kendra, had left for her to do. Two pages of tasks to get the house cleared out. Kendra had taken over their mother’s cleaning business once she had retired. Since Meriel was out of a job, Kendra had enlisted her to work. The money paid Meriel’s bills, but the work never seemed to end. Meriel knew because she’d worked with her their mother long before Kendra came along. Her little sister never had it as demanding as Meriel did growing up.
Better get to it. She gazed around the attic. Antique furniture piled next to trunks was shoved into the corner. An old sewing machine, a mannequin dummy, and numerous old cardboard boxes waited for her to dig through them. Whatever was written on the side to describe the contents had faded with time. She wiped her hand across her head from the sweat forming on her brow. It was only nine and already the attic was stifling.
Meriel ripped open the first box and found nothing more than old photos, china, and other knickknacks. She moved the box aside and started a pile of things they could sell. She kept on going and got lost in the monotony of pulling boxes and figuring out which things to trash and what could be sold.
By the time she got half the attic sorted, the mound to be tossed far outweighed the pitiful heap of what they could keep. She stopped and took a bottle of water from the cooler. The liquid slipped down her throat, then she ran the perspiring bottle over her forehead and enjoyed the coolness of the water on her skin. She grabbed a box from the trash pile and ventured down to the first floor. She set it down by the front door.
Meriel peered through the dusty window. The breeze had picked up greatly since she had gotten there. She opened the door to get a better look at the sky. A boom of thunder greeted her. A bolt of lightning arced overhead as dark clouds approached the house. An ominous feeling settled over her as she stared at the coming tempest. Her yellow Ford Focus looked like an ant waiting to be squashed by the encroaching storm. Her side vibrated. She dug her phone out of her pocket and saw a tornado warning had been issued for her area.
Metallic pings caught her attention and drew her gaze to her car. Pea-size balls of ice bounced off the hood of her car. Dread crept up her spine as the gale grew bigger. Perfect, I’m stuck in a big creepy house in the middle of a storm. Another boom of thunder and a gush of wind struck. The rain mixed with the hail hit her face, stinging sharply. The clouds had moved in faster than she anticipated. Darkness engulfed the house until it felt like night had fallen. The clouds had taken on a purple-black hue with a tinge of orange mixed in. She heard a crunch. Hail the size of grapefruit had hit her windshield and fell on the roof of her car before rolling off onto the cracked driveway.
Meriel slammed the front door shut. The next roll of thunder shook the house. Sounds like God is doing construction up there. She tried the light switch, but the power flickered and went out. She checked the radar on her weather app. It showed a red and orange blob coming straight at her location. The way the building quaked and with the pounding hail crashing against the house, she wasn’t going to take a chance. Using the flashlight on her phone, she rushed into the kitchen, hoping to find the basement door. Meriel hadn’t explored much of the house except to find the bathroom and the attic. The kitchen appliances were large and from the late 1940s. She pulled open a door by the fridge. A pantry with a few old jars on the shelves. A squeak made her jump as several mice scampered out of the way.
“Mother… fudgenugget. I hate mice.” Meriel slammed the door.
A loud bang overhead didn’t make her feel any better. She heard a soft click and then a creak. Meriel followed the sound and discovered a door in the hallway she had passed by. It blended with the wall so well she didn’t even realize it was there. Stairs led down into the darkness. Her flashlight flickered on and off. Thunder rattled the windows and made her head into the cellar for safety. Rushing wind and pelting rain battered the windows.
The light from her phone let her see the basement filled with more discarded antiques. Besides the collection of antiques, there were shelves of canned goods covered with cobwebs. The cellar fit every stereotype of what a scary basement should be. Spiders hung from their webs. Broken furniture was scattered around. Shelves of canned goods so old the labels had worn off filled one wall. All she needed now was a ghost to pop out and say boo. She glanced at her phone. Great. No signal.
As she moved farther into the basement, she heard water dripping. It led her to another room with a dirt floor. Thick wooden beams supported the floor above. Inside, she found an old well. In the old days, people used to build wells inside the houses. She had never come across it before, though. The sound of the storm didn’t seem as bad. Something about the place didn’t feel right. Water plopped onto her hand. She panned her flashlight around the basement and discovered a wooden door. I wonder where this goes? Let’s find out.
