School let out on May 30th and I picked up my daughter and her best friend and my son and his best friend and we prepared for our beginning of summer excursion. It's becoming a tradition in the family for us to take a trip every year as soon as school is out. Last year we went to Las Vegas which was AMAZING! This year, we decided to stay closer to home and go to South Padre Island. On our first full day on SPI, we slathered on the sunscreen and headed for the pool, to the ocean, to the hot tub, to the pool, and I finally landed on a chaise lounge chair. We were only out for a couple of hours and I didn't think much of it. We get to our condo, and I'm as red as a lobster. No joking. Seriously dark, dark, red. Clearly, the sunscreen failed for me. My husband, who is a rather dark-skinned Latino man, had a horrible burn on his back. By the next morning, my skin began to blister. AUGH! I wanted to be in the ocean! It's been good, though, relaxing with the kids, playing Uno late at night and laughing like crazy, and binging on some junk food. (Shh...I'm supposed to be dieting.) I'm beginning my summer reading with Rum Runner by Tricia Leedom. Starting chapter three now and so completely hooked! What are you reading to start your summer off right?
